Rafael Reyes Biography
I was born in Lima, Peru in 1967. My father is Peruvian and mother is from the United States.
In 1974 my family moved to the United States and settled in southern California.
I studied at UC Irvine and then UC Santa Cruz for my undergraduate degrees, graduating
with honors in my double-major of Anthropology and Computer Science. Following my graduation
in 1989 I went to Indonesia for one year to teach English in a rural school with VIA.
In 1990, I returned and worked in the computer field for three years then entered UC Berkeley's
graduate program in Anthropology where I completed a masters degree. I returned full-time
to the computer field where did business consulting and software development in business process
reengineering. I last worked for 5 years at Hewlett-Packard as a project manager and systems
architect.
In the last five years I have been heavily involved in the Sierra Club
(see Qualifications) and
serve on the board of San Francisco Baykeeper. I recently made a career change and joined
As You Sow as Associate Director.
I live in San Mateo, California and am happily engaged to be married!
