Character Background

When generating characters it is worth remembering Anobora is different from traditional fantasy setting based on the Northern European England / France  economy model. Anobora is based large absentee owned farms that import vast amounts of migratory labor servicing large and affluent cites

Mountain

The mountain regions of Anobora are rugged, inaccessible and overlooked by the rest of the world. This makes them ideal for the common man looking to escape oppressive central authorities. Unfortunately for this very same reason the Mountains are poor resources which  drives the common man back to the rest of civilization. However this environment produces a rugged, independent people who are accustomed to hardship, willing to take great risks and have no respect for property laws. Yes in other words adventurers.

Must take

Climbing 13 - for 0 points
Survival Mountain
Native language with dialect
Distinctive features: mountaineer (accent) 5 points
recommended disadvantages: Kleptomaniac
No toleration for authority figures
Heretic / Pagan (great place for old cults to hold out)
Hereditary Enemies (vendettas are a way of life in the lawless mountains)
Country

The country is the baseline for the campaign and there are no special modifiers for coming from there. Most of the locals are the workmen and peasants attached to the various large estates with a small minority of freeman farmers on the fringes. All gleefully exploit the vast amounts of migratory laborers coming from the mountains to work the harvests (think rural California and the Mexicans here)

Sea

With the land so tied up one way to break free from the social order for the poor is go to sea. Unfortunately the fishing is poor around Anorbora; centuries of human exploitation and a lack of a shallow continental shelf make the pickings slim. (Most of the fish consumed is imported from Trabazonie, Rawmia and Lusitiania) For the more ambitious there is work in Anoborea's vast merchant marine, and for those who insist on personal independence piracy.

Mandatory

Transportation Familiarity Boats
KS: fishing
Urban

The city is were Anoborea shines. Most of the major ones have been continuously inhabited since ancient times and some like Natorie boast to be the origins of some of the more uniquely urban practices like muggings. These large old cities are also home to centuries old civil wars.

Mandatory

Streetwise
Disease immunity 8-
recommended Psychological Limitation "Looks down on rustics" (rustics e.g. Mountain folks) Nobility

The nobility is much less prominent in Anobora than traditional for FRPs, the Cities having more or less swallowed them up. Still privilege and connection is what they are all about (and good rents from their prime lands).

Mandatory

Lesser Nobility (knights and squires)
Fringe Benefit: low nobility
Fringe Benefit: Low Justice (only on their lands though. While in town the City Fathers might lock you up for fighting in the street and laugh at your title. On your own land you can pretty much murder people with impunity, provided your victims are not that well connected)
Hunted by Hereditary Enemies (it would not be Anobora without vendettas)
Perk: contact (you got relatives in high places)

Nobility
change Low Nobility to Aristocracy
Well Connected (you got relatives, friends and people who want to be your friends everywhere)

9-10 Count

1. Your family owns a good patch of ground and nice place to ambush passerbys so somebody at one time gave you a patent of arms as a bribe to quit bothering their people. Since your neighbors could care less about your' title you get no fringe benefit "low justice"

2. Must belong to one of the three great Herring Importer families. With all the obligations and entanglements that go with this it is really not best for a PCs.
