Cards of Holidays Past

A Night of Magic   1996

Every year I always would budget Thanksgiving weekend to complete the artwork for the card.  Unfortunately I had commitments this particular year and I did not have photographs or sketches of the Drake for this cover.  All this information was done from memory and aerial photographs from my library.

The subject here was special to Julie and myself, since this is where we were married.  That is why I incorporated Cinderella's carraige into the picture.  We had a fantastic time with our friends and family.

Marshall Fields Clock  1997

This was the first card that I did using technology.  The original image came from me sketching at the corner across the street.  But the color manipulation and text (unlike the previous ones, which were reverse blueprints) was done in a computer.

This clock is truly one of the landmarks of Chicago.  The fact that it weighs 18 tons and cantilevers over the shoppers below doesn't seem to bother anyone.  Norman Rockwell did a fabulous painting with this as its subject matter.  I will try to find it and post it here too.
