Serenade from The East.

By Robert James DeBurgh (Poet)

Ah! Love! Love! My Love!
The sky Above is not large Enough
To encompass my Heart, when thoughts of Thee
Stuff it Full, and o'er Full, with Love!

In Minarets around, the Muezzin's call to the faithful,
Full of Rapture tho' it may be, cannot Capture
One Tenth part of my Love!
For, were you to call for me, the Bazaat below me,
Tho' full to capacity, would not slow me, for Thy Love
Hath given my feet wings!!

Persia 1890

NOTES ON PROVENANCE:
Found under the drawer lining of a dresser belonging to the Estate of Lady Euphemia Quinge. (d1935) This piece lends credence to the theory that the Lady Euphemia and RJ de B were, at one time, lovers. An alternate theory is that she spurned him thereby providing the impetus for his travels. We may never know the truth....
(After reading this piece, B. Svertlovich went to lay down...)
