Rizalians Do Well in 1st Sem
11/27/2000

Members of SUHS Rizal 1999-2000 class have proven to become very visible, not only in the Silliman University Campus, but also in the Dumaguete Society. They have, in a short span of time, gained numerous achievements and accomplishments that have made our national hero, Jose Rizal, whom we are named after, proud of. First of all, in September 2000, our former SUCAT-1 Unit Corps Commander, Joshua Francisco Ablong, who is now also a member of the SU Men's Glee Club, the SU Campus Ambassadors, and an ROTC platoon leader, won in the 2000 SUROTC Inter-Company Oratorical Contest. Also in the Competition, and garnering third place, was another Rizalian, Edric Torremocha, who was also elected in June 2000 as the SU College of Business Administration Freshmen Class President. In that same election, Ramon Antonio Ruperto, was voted Vice-President for Information Technology. Meanwhile, in the College of Nursing, Richard "King" Reyes, the SUHS 2000 Batch 1st Honorable Mention and another ROTC platoon leader, also became Freshmen President. His Nursing classmate, Freslyn Lim, the 1999-2000 President of the SUHS Christian Youth Fellowship, is now also the editor-in-chief of THE NURSE, the official publication of the college. Another Nursing stude, Angelica Martinez, the SUHS Band Majorette in S.Y. 1999-2000, is now a band minorette for the Silliman University Band. Mark Artemio Reyes, our ex- SUCAT 1-Unit Adjutant, and now a platoon sergeant in the SUROTC, is a member of the prestigious SU Campus Choristers. In the field of sports, our very own Anthony Emperado and Nabi Montenegro, the 1999-2000 Co-Captains of the SUHS Soccer Varsity Team, the 2000 National Champions, are now members of the College Team. Rhea Tan, on the other hand, who is studying at Ateneo de Manila University, is one of the members of its Soccer Women Varsity Team. Also, Charito Fe Nocete, passed the Philippine Military Academy Entrance Examinations, and is scheduled to transfer there by 2001. Meanwhile, in academics, the Rizalians, led by SUHS 2000 Class Salutatorian Megan Joy Sing, who is an SU Portal Scholar, are also shining brightly. These are only the achievements in the first semester of SY 2000-2001, so watch out for more in the second sem and beyond!
