Jeanne's Rainey Falls Run
Poem by Ro'
On a Rogue River trip, our dear friend Jeanne just couldn't resist - she had to do it, she knew she could do it - with the help of a strong paddle crew.  Jeanne is a determined woman - once her mind is set on an objective - something is going to happen.  On this day, it was said that Jeanne somehow grew a set of balls - Really big balls!.  Ro's poem sums it up beautifully.  At a permit party, Jeanne was presented a beautifully framed type-set presentation, adorned with a set of big testicles and a big purple bow - this poem. . .
To my friend Jeanne, I present these balls,
After all, she is the girl who ran Rainey Falls,

Despite common sense and knowledge at hand,
Our girl Jeanne became quite the Man.

Mike made it clear, the falls he would not do
So with video in hand he filmed our little crew.

Carole and I decided ego didn't matter,
While attempting to define grace thru the great fish ladder.

Ken wanted the run, however he could
Upside down in a kayak?  Sure anyone would!

Once was not enough, Ken jumped in the bow
With Doug by his side, no stopping them now.

Jeanne was pumped, her line was picked,
The only problem so far was her hat was not clipped.

We really thought she had it, just didn't seem fair,
That such a sweet line ended with a flight thru the air!

The lateral did eat them, and later we got the tip,
At 1,600 cfs, it's a guaranteed flip.

After hearing Doug's saga of being pulled down twice,
Jeanne stated she would never do it again, now ain't that nice.

But if I know my Jeanne, and she gets the chance,
Odds are I'll be in the bow, shitting my pants!

"I watched the river for over an hour and finally made the decision that the waterfall was runnable.  It was runnable, right up to the landing and the launching". . . Jeanne

"
Tell ya Jeanne, the longer I scout a rapid like that, the more of a wreck I become!  I scouted this one a couple years back at the same flow, no matter what position I took on the rocks, I just couldn't see the bottom of that hole!  I took the center chute and got hung up on a rock at the entry.    You are one wild & crazy gal!!". . . . . .Riverchucky
While on a demo trip with Cascade Outfitters, I was working as a Hyside rep.  I rowed a 16' cataraft into the gullet of Rainey Falls when it was running at about 2,600 cfs.  The boat submarined, we were shoulder deep in whitewater and came out of the hole rightside up!  My client (passenger up front) saw this as being very good river karma - he bought the boat.  And has  been buying Hyside ever since for his commercial rafting outfit in West Virginia.

That's a 16' cataraft with 24" diameter tubes about to be fully submerged in the hole of the falls!  A very wild ride!
