Curious aren't you? Most people won't click on the scripture reference. I was not a part of picking out this scripture. Glenn picked it out and didn't even ask me - which is OK. This scripture is marked in my Bible with a note - "Translators 7/25/92."
We were eating lunch on 7/24/92 in Valenca. It was my first trip to Brazil and it was a good trip. We had spent the first part of the week in Acude and the last part of the week in Valenca. I met two sisters whom I have a great amount of respect for: Carla and Deise. We affectionally referred to them as 'slave-drivers' - they had organized our visits and we had a lot of visits. As soon as we would return from one visit, they would send us on another one. They have an intense desire to help spread the good news with those around them.
After lunch, I suddenly realized that it was Laura's (my youngest daughter) 10th birthday and I wasn't there. I think that even in the midst of spiritual victories, one still needs family. Flavia realized that I was sad and shared a scripture with me - it was 2 Timothy 2:3 "Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus".
As I had my next quiet time - Ephesians 2:19 jumped off the page at me. Here I was in the midst of strangers and aliens and suddenly I realized that we are all members of God's household. I shared this scripture with Flavia (and the rest of the interpreters) the next day.
So, about 10 years ago, this scripture suddenly took on a new meaning for me. I suspect that it will have an even greater meaning after this trip.
