Before introducing some useful sources for deciding where to study,
I'm going to tell you why I chose Hawaii Pacific University.
I chose it because they've got a big inernational student body.
It ranks within the top 10 in the United States.
The United States is the number one country in terms of the number of international
students, (as far as I know), which makes HPU one of the tops in the world!

Good, or even the best thing about studying away from your home country is that
you get to see many different opinions and perspectives that you wouldn't even
get to imagine if you stay in your home country.
They expands your point of view and add some fravors to your life.
There are many different people all over the world, Americans are not the only "world".
I wanted to expose myself to the world.

....OK, here are the sources that I thought was useful. But this is limited to the case of the
United States.

Deciding the school

For deciding which state to live in the United States, weather and living costs maybe among the most important criteria for you. This website let you do a search according to your choice of criteria, such as hospital availability, student-teacher ratio in colleges, or even the quality of social life !
¡
Method 1: If you don't know what you are going to study, just imagine

This, I think, is the best site to look for the college that best fit your criteria.
I used their search engine a lot to pull out universities that offers classes in the area of my interest. This is a good way to narrow down your candidates from the hundreds and thousands of options out there.
Method 2: Pick up schools that offer classes in your area of interest.

Method 3: If you know what your major is going to be, look for a school
The USNews's ranking makes universities and colleges conscious about how they are doing their work. The ranking really matters to them. Which means this ranking is pretty much reliable. I think a lot of students who now are in school referred to this ranking at least once for choosing their school.
They also provides a ranking according to the number of international students or amount of tuition.
what you want in your student life.
that ranks the best in that field.
Method 4: If you find any good ones, go check out their websites!!
¡
http://www.yahoo.com
Simply run the search in Yahoo, and find the school's website.
It tells you alot.
What do you see in thier homepage? The design looks sofisticated? The links are working? If not, probably the computers in thier computer room are not the high spec. ones. Do they have a department or some kind of section dedicated to internationa students? If not, probably you will have difficult time in dealing with viza and other legal document processing.
Write an e-mail asking simple questions to the admission office. How long does it take for them to give you a reply? If they responds next day, you will be able to receive a good care from the staffs working at the school.
One more thing to add. Look at the school color. You will have to see lots of them once you start studing at the school. If you don't like the color, better not go there!.
