| This page will chronicle my personal procedure for making your *91* Daytona base model (ie 2.5L TBI) into an MPI vehicle. I have seen this done w/ later style 2-piece or one piece TII style manifolds, but as there were few of them around, i decided to try to use a much-more-plentiful 2.2L TI manifold, and get it to work. yes i know performance will not be as high as w/ a *standard* blow-through manifold, but concessions must be made, and new areas must be explored. Just call me Napoleon... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Problem Number One - The Manifold | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My brother purchased a manifold from Yahoo! Groups member on a list i belong to, so we had a manifold from there. One piece from an 91? TI i think. fuel rail, TB, FPR, Cable Bracket, injectors, all for 70 bucks. WITH SHIPPING! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Problem Number Two - The Pre-op | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We had to tear off all the original MPI equipment that we fabricated, but this was little problem. The Bolts we bought for the OldTI intake worked on the New MPI intake, so we reused them, no gasket change either. This intake is MUCH HEAVIER than the old TI intake. It was kind of a monster to lie down in there, while we got some bolts started to hold her in place. However, that said, the space left behind the intake was plenty to get at the bolts with our standard 3/8" drive ratchet and 13MM socket for the bolts. The TB already had the Cable bracket this time, so no fabrication was required in that area. If you have an old Blade style TBIsetup, you may need some new cables to make this beast work! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Problem Number Three - The Electrical Connections | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| we reused the old injector harness, as it fit on the new rail, injectors too. The original MPI terminal block was reused and worked fine, except it was Barely squished wiring wise betweeen the manifold and the firewall. Everything fit after a little working around though, don't worry. we had to extend the TPS wiring, and the AIS didn't work on my manifold so it was useless to extend the AIS, but we didn't know that, and did anyway. |

| Problem Number Four - Throttle Cables | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The new manifold had the same cable style holes in it, so we just had to press my cables into place. However, the cables were too long for the stock POSITION of the bracket. They held the throttle completely SHUT and the pedal still to the floor when you had them bolted in a standard way to the TB. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| We put a piece of thick steel between the cable bracket and the TB mount-holes, and nut-n-bolted it together to make an "extension" of sorts. this would allow the cables to be extended completely, however, after we did this, we forgot to give the CRUISE CONTROL MODULE cable enough slack to go onto the cable slider on the TB. The cable was too short for the position we put the bracket on. We have yet to fix this problem. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Problem Number FIVE - The EGR | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Same as witht he OLD Setup. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Problem Number Seven - The Fuel System | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We had already cut the lines for the fuel system, we took out the fuel filter we installed earlier, and put an extension on the return line. We ran fuel line to the rail opening and plastic-extension/FPR nipple we bought from CAMPBELL SUPPLY. i believe the nipple was 3/8 NPT. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
