Dragon Seek by Wolfman!
He could hear the Red Dragon as it crashed through the brush as
it searched for him.
Heart pounding and his breath coming in gasps he ran on, searching
for a safe place to hide.
For the hundredth time he wondered how he had gotten into this mess,
being chased by a 30 foot
fire breathing, meat eating red dragon. He had always had an affinity
for animals...but this Dragon
was something else all together.
Down through history,(short as it was)
dragons had preyed on mankind and his stock as easy prey.
Never in his career as Kings Game Keeper had he thought he would be
running and hiding from a half grown Red Dragon. The sound of crackling
brush growing nearer spurred him on .
He was tiring quickly now...must find a place to hide.
Flame flashed in the brush to his left...then
to his right."He was being herded like a sheep to slaughter"!
Ahead of him a cliff face loomed above him. When he reached the cliff
he immediately began to climb, useing the last of his energy to climb from
hand hold to handhold!
As he climbed he heard the Dragons laughter,"Climb manling...Climb..HAHAHAHA..your
time is near"!
He knew the Dragon could of caught him before he climbed out of reach
of those 8 inch claws or the snap of his ivory teeth. Still yet the fiery
breath could of burnt him from the cliff face at any time if the Dragon
had so wished.
He climbed two hundred, three hundred
feet up. Finally after climbing 400 feet straight up he reached the top.
Dragging himself over the top he saw the ground was open for hundreds of
yards in every direction.
Immediately in front of him was a jumble of boulders. He could hear
the dragon starting up the cliff face, his claws clicking and scratching
on the rock as he climbed.
His anger flared , he was tired of being hunted . Tired of running..beside
he had nowhere else to run.
He crawled hurriedly to the boulders
he noticed earlier. Slipping down behind them he waited as the sound of
claws on stone grew nearer. As he watched through the crack between two
boulders, he saw the tips of the Dragons horns appear. A red scaled paw
with 8 inch claws appeared over the edge...then the other came into view.
As he watched the rest of the horns came into view...all 14 inches of them.
Then the ears appeared as the Dragon pulled itself higher. His time was
near...he gathered his legs under himself and took a deep breath.
As the Dragons eyes came into view he
could see them searching behind him in the open land he would of had to
of crossed.NOW...NOW was his time to strike, HE surged upward, throwing
his arms up in the air he screamed...BOO..bet I scared you haha.!
The Dragons eyes bulged in startelment, instinct made him throw his
head back from an unexpected appearance so close in front of his nose.
He overbalanced and his claws ripped free from the stone with an awful
scrabbling. Eyes bulgeing, all four legs and tail pinwheeling he fell screaming...AAAHHHHHHHH!!!
The man watched for a few seconds ...laughing.
Then a worried look crossed his face. Yelling down to the falling Dragon
he said "Lorn you fool...use your wings!" Faintly the man heard..oh..yeah..hehe.
The dragon unfurled his wings, caught himself and soared back up to
the cliff top.
"You scared the life out of me Sir john...hahaha".
That was one of the best games of hide and seek we’ve played. Lets play
another!"
Sir john watched as his pet almost quivered with excitement. Raised
from an egg Dragons made good pets.
They didn't start to get mean until after puberty....which didn't happen
until they were in their second century.
"O.K. Lorn carry me down and then you can go hide." After lorn had
set him at the bottom of the cliff face he lumbered off giggling like a
happy child. As he reached the tree line Sir john yelled .."Remember the
rules Lorn. NO flying and NO invisibility spells!
Sir John sat down laughing
to himself remembering games past. Lorn had a habit of cheating sometimes
when he got excited. Oh Well...children will play. And a 30 foot Red Dragon
is still a child, considering they grew to 100 feet in length in the second
year.
He would set here and while away the time for a little while longer.he
could hear lorn crashing and giggling as he searched for a placeto hide.
When Lorn got quiet Sir john would start a leisurely hunt for his pet.
Lorn so loved to play hide and seek, hard as it was for him to find
a bush big enough to hide behind.
His hilarious antics made the game worthwhile to Sir john, and lorns
happiness.
Everybody knows a happy Dragon is a safe Dragon.
Such is the life of the Kings Game Keeper!
