The way how CPR
is performed differs slightly according to the age of the
patient. victim. There are two categories:
- Adults
- Children
- Infants
CPR Procedure for
Adults
|
|
- Call for
emergency services
- Tilt the head
back and listen for breathing
- If not
breathing normally, do the following:
- pinch nose and cover
the mouth with yours
- blow until you see
the chest rise
- give 2 full
breaths
(each breath should take 2 seconds)
- If the victim is still not
breathing normally, coughing or moving, do the
following:
- using
both hands,
begin chest compressions
- push down on the
chest 1.5 to 2 inches 15 times right
between the nipples

CPR Procedure
for Children
|

- Call for
emergency services
- Tilt the head
back and listen for breathing
- If not
breathing normally, do the following:
- pinch nose and cover
the mouth with yours
- blow until you see
the chest rise
- give 2 normal
breaths
- If the victim is still not
breathing normally, coughing or moving, do the
following:
- using
the heel of one hand, begin chest compressions
- push down on the
chest 1 inch 5 times right between the
nipples

for Infants
|

- Call for
emergency services
- Slightly tilt the head back and listen for
breathing. Be sure to support the child's
head.
- If not
breathing normally, do the following:
- pinch nose and cover
the mouth with yours
- blow until you see
the chest rise
- give 2 small
puffs
- If the victim is still not
breathing normally, coughing or moving, do the
following:
- Using
the tips of the index and middle fingers, begin chest compressions
- push down on the
chest 0.5 inch 5 times right between
the nipples
