La Guingette
When you find yourself in the environs of Bobo and it becomes unbearably hot, the Baignade de Kou (La Guinguette) is a highly appreciated spot. La Guinguette is a bilharzia-free, crystal-clear bathing area 18 km from Bobo in a verdant forest (bilharzia is a worm prevelent in stagnate water that enters the body through the skin). In colonial times, it was reserved exclusively for the colonialists. Now, it's a popular place with Africans on weekends; during the week you'll have the place to yourself. Thieves are a serious problem, day and night. Nonetheless, the beautiful Kou River's cool, clear waters shaded by the gallery forest, provide an exquisite place to swim!
