John W. Young
John Young was selected as an astronaut in NASA's second class (1962).  He made his first flight into space while serving as the pilot onboard Gemini-3 in 1965, this was the first manned mission of the Gemini program.  Next, Young was given command of Gemini-X in 1966.  His mission came in 1969 when he was the CMP onboard Apollo 10.  In 1972, Young became the 9th man to walk on the moon while he was commanding Apollo 16.  John Young made his fifth flight into space in 1981 when he commanded STS-1, the first space shuttle mission.  His sixth mission was in late 1983 when he commanded the historic first spacelab shuttle mission, STS-9.  After over fourty years of service, John Young retired from NASA in 2004.  During his six flights, he logged 34 days in space.

My Collection: This is an official NASA 8x10 litho which Young has autographed and inscribed.  This was the first piece of my collection and is still my favorite.
