Love to read? Have you
wanted to join a book club, but were intimidated? MOMS
Club’s® book club is a great place to start, discuss books with other moms
in a casual environment. Books chosen are usually available from the
library or can be borrowed from your fellow book club members. Contact
Autumn, if interested and come talk books with us! There are four
months remaining in this season’s book club. The remaining selections,
along with a synopsis and information about locating the books are listed
below.
February: “Confessions of
an Ugly Stepsister” Gregory Maguire Fiction: an alternative view of the
Cinderella “myth”, set in Holland. Gives the fairy tale a sense of realism.
This book is available at the library.
March: “Life Among the
Savages” Shirley Jackson Memoir: Jackson, the author of well known mid-20th
century horror stories “The Lottery” and “The Haunting of Hill House” was
also the mother of 4 rambunctious children. Great stories of raising
children told with a sardonic wit. This book is not available in the
library, but I have two copies to loan.
April: “My Sister’s
Keeper” Jodi Picoult Fiction: A family struck with the tragedy of a
severely ill daughter chooses to bring another child, genetically chosen to
be a perfect match for her sister, into the world. What happens when, 13
years later, she decides she won’t give her sister a kidney? This book is
available at the library, but there are numerous requests. I have a copy to
loan, as do others in the club.
May: “The Children’s
Blizzard” David Laskin Nonfiction: In 1888, an unexpected storm caught
schoolchildren without winter clothes in the upper Midwest. This book is
available at the library.
