February 14, 2007 - Happy Valentines Day , The Lovers & The Two Of Cups
Happy Valentines Day everyone. I wrote an entry awhile ago about the lovers and figured I would repost it today. The entry was entitled "When The Lovers Just Don't Make Sense". We all understand "The Lovers Of The Major Arcana" & "The Two Of Cups" represent love interests. However, they do sometimes appear in a reading and they just don't fit into the love category. When This happens you can use this as an alternative. You will find the article below the picture I posted.

Sometimes The Lovers card can be a tricky one to read. It often pops up in a reading and you know it has nothing to do with love or relationships. So outside of the obvious "I see a new relationship brewing", "marriage on the horizon" or "the reckindling of romance" lets look at The Lovers card in a different light.

Besides love The Lovers card is about making a commitment to a crucial decision. Some decks refer to this card as the card of The Two Paths. So The Lovers are showing you that a decision needs to be made. You need to decide the path you will travel and stick to it. Once on that path there is no turning back. Simply put, make up your mind ,stick to it, and just do it.

The Lovers card in the Rider-Waite deck is a great example of this. It's very easy to see the biblical Adam & Eve in this card. Behind Adam is the tree of life & behind Eve is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In the tree of knowledge slithers the serpent tempting Eve to eat of the tree's fruit. Eve knows this fruit was the only thing God told them was off limits. She knows that if she gives in to temptation there may be consequences to her actions. The spirit or angel possibly Raphael looks on impartial to the decision that will soon be made.

Looking at the card in this way it is now easy to see how this refers to making a crucial decision. Eve had a choice to make. She knew that the tree's fruit was off limits. She knew eating the fruit would displease God. She knew there would probably be consequences for her actions. So what does Eve do ? She throws caution to the wind and takes a bite. To make matters worse she then brought the fruit to Adam and he now had to make that same choice. Adam took a bite of the fruit and the rest is history or "his-story" depending on how you want to look at it. Regardless, from that point on everything changed for the two of them.

Just like Adam & Eve we all have choices to make. Some may have positive results, some choices may be disasterous. Once a decision like this is made though, there is no turning back.

I think what this card tell us, is to carefully choose our path. Know that once this path or choice is made that there is no turning back. The choice that is made could possibly change everything for better or for worse, so choose wisely. Its nice to know however that Spirit (represented by the angel in the picture) is impartial to our decisions.Whatever path or choice is choosen, you will still have guidance and support from your higher powers.
