| After the 5.45mm new cartridge and AK-74 assault rifle entered service, the RPK-74 light machine gun was developed from the rifle. The RPKS-74 version with folding butt was intended for airborne paratroops. These machine guns differ form the AK-74 assault rifle in barrel length and weight, sight windage mechanism, butt shape, dimensions weight and the design of the recoil compensator. |
