"Frenzy"
The kayak I chose is made by a company called Ocean Kayak. Very appropriate, huh! They have been making all different types of ocean kayaks since 1971. You can check them out, the history and all their products at www.oceankayak.com.
The model I chose is called the "Frenzy." This was just right for me because of two reasons:
- it was the smallest adult size kayak (nine feet long);
- it was the most stable (good for the surf).
The following quote is how Ocean Kayak describes their "Frenzy" in the catalog.
"The Frenzy is one of the easiest, most user-friendly kayaks available. By combining a built-in keel with short length, the Frenzy can track straight, yet maintain incredible maneuverability." Either riding the waves or flat water cruising, it's lots of fun.The Frenzy weighs 45 pounds and is easy to handle. When I want to carry it, I tip it on its side, grab it with the right hand on the rear straps and the left hand in a forward scupper hole. Then, I can easily pick it up, and in my case, slip it into my compact hatchback. With the passenger seat pushed all the way forward and the backrest down, the kayak only sticks out one foot. I tie down the hatchback door with a bungee cord and I'm on my way.
Luckily, I am able to park very close to a beach so it is easy for me to unload the Frenzy from the car and drop it on the beach. From there, I simply grab the front handle and drag it down to the water. Now for the fun!
