Independent Records gave me $45 for half of a box of vinyl LPs, and someone at work might end up with the rest of them. Quite something flipping through the covers, remembering the music that got me through troubling times in high school and beyond.I also had three albums of 78's that Roy passed on to me when he moved out of El Paso. I remember when I decided to tape all of my mom's old 78's. One had a nasty crack running through it, and in fact when I lifted it off the turntable after recording it, it came up in two pieces.
All in all, it's been much the same experience as sorting through my boxes and boxes of old fanzines, about thirty years' accumulation, remembering conventions gone to and friendships shared.
Today I made my hotel reservations for Corflu. The room block at the Plaza was gone, even the Golden Gate across the street was booked up Friday night, and the only downtown hotel I found room at was...the El Cortez.
