I Can See Clearly Now

The cable guy came over and fixed up our wiring yesterday, so no longer do we get horrible cellular interference on the USA Network or a fuzzy picture on the Independent Film Channel. We celebrated by watching a bit of The Delicate Art of the Rifle on the latter. (Seen it? Made by students at the University of North Carolina, it features their professor John Kessel, better known to some of us skiffy readers as a science-fiction author, and has Bruce Sterling popping up on a TV monitor for a cameo as an irate weatherman. Clever, funny and nihilistic.)

Still no firm indications of whether the cable modem signal is greatly enhanced.

I'm still yawning over the conversion to Daylight Savings Time, and in fact I was apparently napping when I changed the clock on my VCR, as it missed the start of the midnight movie by about a minute.

The cat isn't a firm believer in Daylight Savings either. He's not bashful about letting you know it's already breakfast time, either. If a helpful meow doesn't suffice to inform you, his favorite trick is the "drive-by": running up to the bed, jumping up just long enough to run past you along its edge and jumping off again. If all else fails he's not too proud to climb on the bed and thump you with his paw.

At Toastmasters this afternoon, Penny told us all about her cruise vacation and urged us all to take one. I can imagine Michelle's response. "Spend a week eating, watching movies and going to the casino? You might as well stay home."
