What I Believe
This page is not intended to discuss the myriad conundrums of life. I
won't discuss whether or not there is life on other planets, if our
government is really controlled by the Illuminati, or who was on the
right side in the War Between the States.
In this section of the web site, I will discuss my Biblical
beliefs—my theology, etc. The following basic presuppositions will be
required:
- I believe the Bible to be the direct revelation of God to man.
- I believe the writers of the Bible were inspired of God;
therefore, the words of scripture are "God-breathed."
- I believe the Bible is completely accurate and infallible in all
matters of life (faith, practice and religion) in its original form.
- I believe that God has preserved his scriptures so that the
versions that we have today (those versions that were honestly
translated with a desire to accurately communicate the original
words and intent) are reliable and useful for "doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness."
- I believe that man's ultimate authority in all matters of life
is the Bible. Everything I believe should be clearly delineated in
scripture and nothing I believe should contradict scripture.
- I believe that no man has the authority to speak infallible
truths. All truth that God desires to communicate to us is to be
found in the pages of holy scripture. Nothing additional is needed
and any man seeking to speak with the authority of God, but without
the basis of scripture, is anti-Christ and should be avoided at all
costs.
- Most importantly, I believe that God gave us his word in order
to communicate his message to us. This means that he (and the
individual writers he used) has said exactly what he means. There
are no hidden meanings or secret messages. The plain understanding
of the text is the correct understanding of the text. For this
reason, it is vitally important to use a good version written in
modern English (or in the language of your native tongue). "If the
plain sense makes common sense, seek no other sense."
This section of the web site will likely continue to grow as I am
able to post more of my beliefs. I welcome your comments and will gladly
discuss or debate any of the items included here.
