It was another quiet morning in Hyrule. Everybody
was working hard as usual, even though every peasant in the land was bored
of trying to make a living. Carpenters loitered about pretending to work
and snotty-nosed brats scampered around getting in the way. Yes, everything
was business as usual, until, "AAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!!". The cry went on. Who
could it be. All of a sudden, a weasely little man appeared in a panic.
Everyone crowded round to see what the problem was and Malon pushed to
the front and hushed them all up. "What's wrong?" she asked confused. "Th...th...the
magic beans!" stuttered the man, "the number one designer merchandise"
he went on, "and the candied yarns from the sweet stalls, and
every one of those adorable little keaton masks....everything the kids
consider to be all the rage....GONE!!! just like that!". Everybody gasped.
"All the people who rely on spoilt brats for a livin?...they'll go out
of business!". "We must find Lank!" a bystander piped up. "No good" said
Malon "He's off on holiday in some far away land called Termina!".
Everyone shook their heads in dispair.
What is to become of all the high street dealers
who flog these super popular designer goods, and what disappointment will
befall every child on their next birthday?...
Lank got home, and realised he forgot to get Malon
a present from his holiday in Termina, so he decided he should buy her
some new underwear from a Hyrule store. But guess what happens when he
gets to the store? None left. So, Lank goes looking round all of the stores,
finding none there either. But, at the last store in Hyrule he goes to,
he sees a big monster thing, speeding away.
He ran after it, but something falls
out of its mouth. Lank falls over it. It was something from the store.
Lank gets up, no big monster thing in sight, but a trail of items from
the store. He follows it, and walks into a weird portal thing, and ends
up in another world. The monsters world...
Lank looked around for the monster he just came
after, but there was nothing to be seen but a great mass of swirling blood
red mist, and what's more it stank!. He turned around to check behind him,
but still nothing, and then, all of a sudden, it was there, the same dumb
looking, ugly beast he saw before, with it's long, gangly legs, black armoured
body, little black nose and cute little pointed ears......wait a minute..
that's not right...but it must be...after all, it was the same monster
as before, only now, it wore...it wore...a...A KEATON MASK!!...
The look of shock covered Lank?s face. He quickly
pulled out his sword. He ran towards the creature, and took a really accurate
swing. The black armoured body would have split in two, but it quickly
swiped at Lank with one of it's six legs, and he flew across through the
mass of swirling, blood-red mist, smashing off the floor. He went to get
up, but there was something missing... His sword and shield had been eaten!
He pulled out his crossbow. Lank jumped up, and aimed towards the ugly
beast... but there was just a seemingly endless mass of red mist. He got
up properly, and checked his items. A few other things had gone too, such
as most of his mask collection, and his collection of bombs... But he still
had his Ocarina, and a bit of cash...
He pulled out his precious musical instrument
and started to play the sun song. The creature writhed about at the notes
and it's Keaton mask flew off. Lank grabbed it and put it on for no apparent
reason, however it turned out to be the right thing to do for, as much
as this monster liked wearing the mask, it was terrified of it on anyone
else, it ran away into the red mist roaring as it went. Lank wiped the
sweat off his brow. He was relieved, but something told him the thing was
set to return. Oh well, nothing he could do about it now. He got up and
was just about to leave to find a way back to Hyrule, and as he turned,
the dark figure of a mysterious woman appeared before him... squinted at
the figure... he couldn't make much out, other than the figure being that
of a women, and the same pointed ears he had...
He started to approach her, but she seemed as
far away as before... He began to move quickly. She turned around, pulled
a hood over her head, and ran away from him. "Wait!" Lank shouted, as he
tried to catch up...
Lank only just stopped himself before
falling down a huge, almost vertical cliff... She was nowhere to be seen.
Lank picked himself up, and looked down from the top. He could just see
mist. He was about to turn around when he could see a gap in the mist...
Below him was a town... no, a city! He set off to find a way down...
On arriving in the city, Lank encountered a number
of street vendors, such as a tall, fat, red-faced butcher at a meet stall,
and a young girl selling strawberries. The people of the town seemed nice
enough, and they reminded Lank very much of the Shiekah, but, hold it!
the Shiekah were a good, peaceful race, so what could these people be doing
in the monster's world?.
Meanwhile, back in Hyrule, the Gerudo's stood
accused of steeling all the fashionable items, but as you and I know, it
was really those monsters from the other world!, so it was up to Nabooru
and her friends the sages and her new friend Malon to prove their innocence.
However, Talon, Malon's dad didn't like her associating with gerudos, and
had cruelly resorted to locking her in the barn!. She sat in the hay, so
frustrated!. "Grrrr!" she moaned. "Lank would know what to do!, he should
be back from Termina by now, he promised he'd be back for my birthday ?cos
we were meant to be going to that posh restaurant Planet Hyrule!". Suddenly,
there was a knock on the side of the barn. It was Ingo. "Hush your row!"
he screeched and Malon fell down exhausted into the hay.
Back in the monster world, Lank walked the streets
of the town looking for an explanation of the days events. It was less
misty down here. All of a sudden, out of the corner of his eye he spotted...
no it couldn't be,...but it was... Shiek...but... Shiek couldn't be real,
he thought it was just a disguise that Zilda had come up with....but what
he saw was real as the light of day...
Lank didn't want to let this one run away... Without
saying anything, or waiting, he ran towards Shiek. Shiek went into a busy
pub, and Lank followed. "Stop!" yelled a big Goron guarding the door.
He pointed at a sign; 'No entry without a pass'.
"But what about..." Lank was interrupted "She has a pass!! You need one
too, to enter, Goro!" Lank backed off, and the door closed. Maybe there's
another way in?... He walked into the back-alley...
"Gorons!" Lank thought out load. If only he had
his Goron mask with him, then he'd be one himself and be able to beat the
living crap out of that guy! He sighed and was about to give up, but then,
from the shadows above him, came a squeaky sniggering. He looked up to
see two little specks of light. He squinted and realised what he was seeing.
"...Navi?" he said, "and............Tatl!". The fairies laughed at his
surprise. "How the hell did you get here?!" he exclaimed. Tatl held her
head high, "we've been following you" she announced, " actually? you're
pretty dumb not to have noticed!". Navi elbowed Tatl in the chest, "Don't
start teasing him again" she warned, "you know what he's like!".
Lank was really peeved. "Let me get this straight!"
he began, " you've been following me and you never bothered coming down
to help!" he glared, "why you!" "Forget it kid!" Navi interrupted, "we
know where the delivery entrance is!". She gestured to him to follow and
they quickly made their way to the side of the building to an old creaky
door. Once inside, they followed the murmur of the crowd until they came
to the main room. Straight in front of them, at the bar, Shiek sat an a
metal stool drinking plum wine from a large bottle. To their surprise,
like she knew what they were thinking, she waved at Lank and gestured for
him to come over. Lank and his friends obeyed and sat at the bar.
Shiek looked at Lank with knowing eyes...then
opened her mouth to speak as the others waited in anticipation...
"I knew you'd be in here as soon as I saw you outside" Shiek began. "I hope you don't think me too rude for not helping you get past the Goron bouncer, but I thought I'd put your abilities to the test" she explained. "OK", began Lank, "this is all very well but....would you kindly tell me what the hell this place is!". Shiek looked at him with mock offence, "This is the normal world.....at least....for me it is". "Not for us!" said Lank a little frustrated, "how could we have got here?, and why?, forgive me for being a bit inquisitive but I get the impression you know more than you're letting on!". Shiek sighed and sat up straight like she was getting ready to give a speech, "Lank", she began, "how much do you know about how all the different worlds are made and structured?". Lank shrugged and Shiek continued, "I have learned that every world is created by the perception of the inhabitants of another". Lank and the fairies looked at each other confused. "what I mean is" said Shiek, "peoples imaginations exist in their own dimensions, this world exists as a result of the dreams and conceptions of people from your world, I myself am created by the imagination of your friend, Princess Zilda" "So what you mean is" said Navi "this is our imagination", "well..." said Shiek "I suppose so, only it's not an image, it's real", "Like, say, our dreams made flesh" said Tatl, "precisely!" replied Shiek. Lank thought for a moment, "But hold on" he said, "I was under the impression this was the monster's world", "well" said Shiek "people have fears too don't they?, bad dreams count as much as good dreams, so there is a monster's sector to this world, in fact, I think it was someone?s bad dreams that brought you here, you see, the more someone believes in their imagination, the closer it gets to reality, and this person must have really believed that their dreams were true, so now our worlds are overlapping, and you got sucked here by whatever that person was dreaming about". "Hang on" said Navi, "who in Hyrule would possibly dream about a bunch of monsters coming and stealing the designer goods?". Lank smacked his head as he suddenly thought of something, "The happy mask guy!" he exclaimed. the others looked at him, "ever since the skull kid incident, he's been convinced that monsters are out to steal his stock, they say he even wakes up in the middle of the night screaming about it!", "then that must be it", said Shiek, "His nightmares took over and drew our worlds so close together that the inhabitants could jump from one world to another". "Nice explanation, Shiek" said Lank, "but now I really would like a way to get back to Hyrule, the last thing I want is to spend the rest of my life here". "Shiek looked him in the eye, "you could try and find the portal you entered this world from and...." "Whoa! Whoa!" interrupted Lank "stop!, that was somewhere up on the cliff, with all that stinky red mist, the monster's sector, I am NOT going back up there in a hurry!", "Well...in that case" continued Shiek "the only way I can think of is to try and make yourself dream about your own world in as strong a way as this mask man you speak of dreamed about his monsters, if you do it right, you should draw your world close enough to make a portal that will take you and your friends back to this....Hyrule". "hey that's easy" said Tatl "anyone can dream!", "No Tatl" said Lank, "Shiek means a vivid dream, a dream that could almost feel real", he looked at Shiek again, "but I just won't be able to sleep right in a place that's not my own, this is a strange place, I could never feel comfortable enough here to go into some deep sleep and dream
about good things, I couldn't make the force strong enough!". Shiek gave a sly smile, "I'm glad you brought that up" she said, and with that, from out of nowhere, she produced a package and handed it to Lank. He looked inside to see....a pair of green thermal underpants?!! |
