FINAL FANTASY VII
Story

FF7 is all about a bloke called Cloud Strife who has never combed his hair in his life. I am not going to say much so you can enjoy the story yourself. But what I am going to tell you is that Cloud is quite moody when upset and is quite strong. The thing he wanted to do the most is join SOLDIER when he was young. He was told that SOLDIER was good to the world and protected it. But after a long time, he finds out that it is not as good as it seemed to be, so he joins AVALANCHE. They don't trust him much because the two teams were once enemies. (SOLDIER were "looking after the world" and AVALANCHE were "terrorists" destroying SOLDIER's Mako reactors (you'll find out what this means in the game)). I could not type the entire story if I wanted to, so this is all you will get for now.

Game

This is so big, I'm not even going to type out the game up to even half of the first of the three disks. I'm just going to type up to the first reactor (trying not to give many hints). The first thing in the game is the sight of some blokes jumping off a train. The big one's (default) name is Barrett Wallace, who is the leader of AVALANCHE. The chap who jumps off with style is you, Cloud. "C'mon newcomer. Follow me." is displayed on the screen in a box, as Barrett talks to you. This is the same kind of display as when every one else talks. The only difficult thing to remember is O = select and X = cancel. Anyway, follow Barrett and get in a fight. Don't panic! These enemies are simple. Don't bother with magic yet. Just attack. For any problems about fighting, read the manual. Keep going and ask your mates to open the doors. A good idea for beginners ( and I still use this ) is to press SELECT to get a hand above you and handy pointers for ladders (green) and doors (red). When you get to the first reactor, don't worry about the flashback until later. This is all that I will type for now.

Gameplay

This was the biggest PS game when it was made (I say "was" because of FF8 & FF9, and more and more games are being made all of the time) on three whole CDs. The controls can be difficult for people who are incredibly used to the old
X = select and O / Triangle = cancel. Well it isn't. It's O = select and X = cancel. Puzzles aren't too hard but some enemies are ridiculously hard. Also, the random battles are very annoying. You can easily get into this game, but if you get to an enemy that is ridiculously hard, you may not come back for a while. I give it 7/10.

Graphics

This is all 3D, and apart from the slightly blocky characters ( during game only - animations are perfect ) this is so perfect it is hard to believe that it is a game. For these graphics, I give it a full 10/10! (Okay, so FF8, FF9 and Chrono Cross etc. are even more amazing, but this is older!)

Sound

There could have been more SFX in fight scenes - nearly all of the different main attacks, limit breakers and magic attacks sound the same as each other. Luckily, the music is catchy and great which makes the score 8/10.

Originality

Square's Final Fantasies take their own approach towards RPG's. Fight scenes can get annoying when you can't see who you are about to fight in the over-world, but it is a great idea. And FF8 isn't too different, too. But I suppose FF7 deserves 8/10.

Price

FF7's normal price was £45, then went down to Platinum (£19.99), but I think it's now in the £10 range. You may find it at a slightly cheaper price somewhere. Craig just stole it.
I think that it is worth the £45, so for £20 and less, it's a must-buy title!

This gets 9/10!

This was last updated 6/9/00. FF8 gets the big 10/10. I'll try and get round to reviewing this too, with FF9, so come back soon.
