XM Portable #1 - BestTimesNow ...Page 2
I used plastic wire ties and Velco tape to hold the battery.
I used a 4mm x 10mm long socket cap screw and washer to fasten the Sony.
I put self-stick pads on the bottom corners.
I used 3/16" eyebolts, chain masterlink and a strap from an old Sony Handycam.
The Terk antenna can be used with a Sony unit if the plastic retainer clips are removed.  The Terk manual shows how, but I also tagged the wires SAT and TER to keep the proper connection.

I bought an 8" wide x 6" deep x 3" high, plastic enclosure from Radio Shack.

The 6 V battery is for a kids Play & Ride.  These are next to the Power Wheels batteries at WalMart.

I could not find a Play and Ride charger, so I bought a 6 V Power Wheels charger.  I cut off the connectors on the charger and battery and installed mating connectors from Radio Shack and kept the proper polarity.

I took my Sony power plug to Radio Shack and had them match the tip of the power plug.  I installed a mating connector to to the other end to attach to the battery connector.

It was a fun project to build, and it worked for me, but if you try make a portable unit, it is at YOUR RISK.  I would recommend that you wait for the Sony portable to come out.
