ADD spelling deficiency
2.1 2.1 Method of Don A. Blakerby

The
question is how could we find ways of a successful learning strategy
for ADD students with grave spelling disabilities. Don A. Blackerby
(1996) has the following strategy.
Don encourages the child to imagine an object far away from school. Thus his client might imagine a ball. Blackerby lets the child imagine to write easy words on his ball and has him spell them backwards . The chosen words are more and more difficult to spell. Alternating the child`s submodalities is a further step to strengthen the spelling ability of the child. The following mindmap of Blackerby's procedure shows the particulars of his method.
One aspect that I miss with Blackerby`s method is the lack of kinaesthetic anchors . The child learns with his visual channel without an ample use of his kinaesthetic resources. But they are the fundament of the ADD child, his manifest trait. Why not make use of the kineasthetic channel in strengthening his spelling ability?
The second aspect is the role ,the child plays in the learning process. With Blackerby the child imagines the picture of his favourite toy and spells the letters of words backwards without creating an imaginable link , a chain between the letters. I think there must be more than to have the children spell backwards, they must invent their own links of spelling to stop the wrong positioning of letters etc..
