Day 1
11th May, 7pm (GMT)
Rice consumed:  0 bowls
Food Hallucinations:  0
Bowels: Amazing considering how much I drank last night.

I can't believe we're doing this to ourselves again.  I blame Eric.  An hour since my last 'meal' - a double decker fried egg sandwich with lashes and lashes of HP sauce - and the smells of Jamie's curry wafting into my room are already making me salivate.  Yes I did say an hour, after 5pm... I managed to sleep through start of Rice Week, drunken monkey that I am. So I started at 6pm instead after that crucial egg sandwich...

The (repressed) memories of Peach Week are coming back to me... The taunts, the smells, the lack of vitamins, the social disasters, the way I view the sloppy orange wedges now (I've had a can all year and not been tempted to touch it once).  Will I ever want to eat rice again?  On a more positive note... As Eric so eloquently put, "Rice Week is forever".  The 'glory' of completing Peach Week lives with me today, 3 years on.  I'm sure Rice Week won't be soon forgotten either.

"At least it's a tried and tested food-stuff" said Pete.  I can't deny it.  Unlike peaches, this is hardly new territory for man-kind.  Not that that's going to make it any easier.

Jake - I've never met you, or even spoken to you, but if you're a friend of Eric's then your a friend of mine... Can't wait to read your posts to find out why you're doing this, you crazy American ;)

Day 1
11th May, 10pm (GMT)
Rice consumed: 1 bowl
Bowels: Tip-top
Most recent rice variety: Easy-cook Basmati

A little supper of the white variety gets me on the bandwagon at last... tasty.  Can't wait til breakfast ;)

Charity > I did like the SPW cause for Peach Week, and the Tsunami seems to have deflected aid away from Africa... so SOS Children Africa it is then. (http://aids-children.org.uk/).  Not sure how the money sides going to work yet, but I'll set up a pledge thread on the Girton JCR website (www.girtonjcr.com) should you wish to donate.  Please do!!!

Thinking ahead, and thinking back to Peach Week... I lost a couple of pounds, at least, last time round.  And I had to force myself to eat all 6 cans each day.  Some rough calcs say I should eat 700g a day!  That's a lot of rice... time to go shopping methinks.

Day 2
12th May, 11am (GMT)
Rice consumed: ~300g
Food dreams: 1

As I tuck into a mammoth helping of Basmati I had a flashback to a dream last night... Not exactly food, but definitely non-rice, I relished the bitter-sweet refreshment that lemon squash can bring.  Surely it's too early for the dreams to kick in?! It was day 4 at least, last time.  Miss Abbott reckons rice is going to be harder than peaches:

Peaches                         Rice                       Winner
Taste              good for a few days           already bland                  Peaches
Texture             always sloppy                 great potential                  Rice
Amount                6 cans a day                  700g (dry)                    Peaches
Ease of eat          quick and easy               boil & shovel                  Peaches
Nutrition             Not a lot, Vit. C?       good carbs & protien           Rice
Food Buddy           Down the hall            across the Atlantic            Peaches

I think you might be right, Cath... but there's no way 6 cans of was enough carbs, so i feel a bit harsh giving that one to Peaches.  Just checked... 6 cans = 460g rice... hmmm
