"The Founders"
In the winter off-season of 2001 four friends and
training partners decided to give a name to themselves
and their efforts, and the founded the
San Diego Black Sheep,
Highland Games Team.

Since that time the Black Sheep have grown into a
loose network of throwers, who support each other with coaching, equipment and
encouragement. Over the years, many athletes have come to the weekly practices
in order to gain access to equipment and coaching, to see if Scottish Athletics
are for them.
There are no dues, no entry forms or any other
barriers to entry. Simply show up to train and you are in the flock. All
equipment and other resources are the property of individual members. The club
owns nothing and has no formal legal status. To sum up we are Just a bunch of
guys (and gals) throwing heavy stuff on weekends.
The success of this model has been validated by
growth and expansion.
The most recent culminating point has been the
founding of the Phoenix Chapter of the Black Sheep.
