Basics Ribon is a magazine aimed at preteen girls. It comes out once a month, with special issues coming out quarterly. Ribon is very long, usually averaging 400-500 pages a month with over 15 different series or one shots in it. Ribon contains a lot of variety when it comes to their series, although after the popularity of the series Tokimeki Tonight, Ribon developed a repuatation for fantasy. Romance series, mahou-shoujo series, and school life/slice of life stories remain very popular.

The mangabon also comes with free gifts called furoku which are usually small little things like paper goods or school supplies. On top of that the magazine has a chance for readers to send in for zen-in which are mail away gifts.
Ribon series are very popular and famous even outide of Japan. Series from Ribon have been translated into many different languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, and German. Ribon has also produced some of the best-known, and most love shoujo mangaka, including NANA creator Ai Yazawa.
Ribon Mascot Comics This is the imprint that Shueisha publishes Ribon series under when they are released in tankobon, or volume, format. Cookie series are also published under this name. It is often shortened to RMC. Older Ribon series have a rainbow strip across the top of them to show they are Ribon Mascot Comics, however newer series simply have a "RMC" or "RMCcookie" logo.

Just because you don't live in Japan does not mean you can't buy Ribon for yourself! Kinokuniya is a great place to buy Ribon, you can buy from them both in person and online.
