I could go on and on and on about Jake, he's one of my favorite subjects to talk about, but if you know us or you've looked through anything else on this page (the Feelings section for example), you've prolly heard it all already. I can't promise I'll be brief. You'll want to check out the Ten Years Gone website, which I built for his band (there's a really good tribute there, lots of pics and background info) and my existence story in the Discovery section. We've built Hive6 together, but unfortunately I locked myself out of it and haven't been able to update it in over two years, and it's so huge that it'd take too long to save it all and upload it here (maybe when I get a faster computer), as I plan to do with Freakish's Homepage. Sometimes I can only do so much at a time without getting too emotional. It's the epitome of the phrase "Life doesn't always turn out the way you plan."
Jake and I met in August '97 when he read a story of mine on Beth's Freehold (see Feelings:Writings:Fog). He emailed a comment to me, I wrote back, and we just kept talking back and forth, becoming very good friends in a short time. In October '97 he asked me out, and it took me a couple of weeks to say yes, but we finally got together that Halloween. It took prolly a month for us to fall in love. We had an excellent relationship, we talked about *everything* and we never fought, our only problem was the distance, he was in NY and I in CA. I flew out to visit in January '98 (this pic is from that visit, just before our first official date). Once I was back in CA we kept talking about how incomplete we felt without the other, so soon after I decided to move to NY to be with him. In April '98 me and Beth took our first roadtrip to NY, and after a short visit Beth went home by bus. I soon got a job and was paying his mom rent.
And we were so happy. We had lots of friends (I kinda aquired all his friends, which was fine), we'd play guitar with Tommy or monopoly with Lauren or magic with brotherDave, or have bonfires with friendDave, or get drunk with friendDave, Dawn and Joe. Or sometimes we'd just drive around the back roads late at night blasting loud music. We made love a lot. We played lottery scratchers and drank lots of crappuchino from wilson farms. Jake's mom was originally from SC and she decided she wanted to move back there, so in September '99 I moved there with them. In Febuary '00 Jake and I finally got our own place, and it was great, even the paying bills part, it was worth it to be able to have sex in any room in the house with the doors open as loud as we wanted ;). We set a definite date to get married, December 21, 2001. Beth moved in with us when she broke up with Mikey (March or April '00, I can't remember), about the same time we started noticing Jake was having trouble wearing his aritificial eye. It turned out to be a tumor (he was born with cancer, was blind as a result, and was told he'd be prone to other cancers later in his life). By the time any of this was realized it was really too late to do anything about it, and he died in September '00, about a month before our third anniversary and two months before his 20th birthday.
I miss him so much...
Afterdeath - what happened after Jake died
