What is a Humane Society?
A Humane Society is the same as an SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or an Animal Shelter.  These organizations try to make sure that all animals are treated with kindness and that all pets are properly taken care of.

Stray and unwanted pets often end up at the Humane Society, and we take care of the pets while we try to find them a new home.  Some of our animals are here because their owners could no longer keep them, and some are here because their owners didn't take good care of them.  That is why it is important to make sure that you are ready and able to care for a pet before you decide to adopt.
The Humane Society is here to care for animals, not to make money for ourselves.  When people adopt a pet from the Humane Society, they pay an adoption fee to help cover the costs of caring for our animals.
What is a Pet Store?
A pet store is a business, and that means they want to make money.  Many pet stores will buy puppies and kittens to sell for high prices, even though there are lots of pets at the Humane Society who are waiting for a home.
Petcetera and PetSmart are two pet stores that help the Regina Humane Society and our shelter pets.  These two pet stores don't sell puppies and kittens from breeders.  Instead, Petcetera and PetSmart have pets from the Regina Humane Society up for adoption.
