Three champions in the making: Genius, Ellie and Gemma

Welcome to Roy and Chris Fernando of Rhonabwy Kennels' (Formly of Western Australia now Sri Lanka) website. First a little about our involvement with this wonderful breed.....

The Border Collie is a breed of dog that I (Chris) have always admired, back in England I would see them work and just marvel at their intelligence, speed and suppleness. I had thought many times about getting one but for one reason or another I never got around to it. It was just by chance that my husband's friend had a litter and Roy suggested I should take a look at them before they were sold as he was fascinated by the red and white ones in the litter. Well I went to see them and the rest as they say, is history, I was absolutely besotted by a little red and white female.

Llanwnen Gaelic Mist, "CHELSEA" was my first Border Collie, I started training her almost from the moment we got her home and never looked back. Chelsea acquired her first title of C.D. at seven months including being a finalist in the West Australian State Obedience Trail. She then returned to the ring at seventeen months and gained her C.D.X. in three straight trials over a week and half. She was a Pal Super Dog and after having puppies and feeling those large jumps were not for her she proved to be the best fly ball dog always ensuring no other dog would beat her. At the tender age of eight having no training or trials all year she took on the top dogs in obedience and came away as the 1998 Open class Obedience Champion.

As you can imagine having a dog with her qualities spoilt me for any other breed and I now own nine border collies (both black and white and red and white). I have to say I have a real soft spot for the red and whites but unfortunately judges in the show ring do not feel the same way often putting up badly put together black and whites over quality reds. Even farmers have changed their minds realising colour makes no difference to the workability of the dog and I am happy to say I have played a little part in this as several of my dogs work on large properties.

We are always striving to ensure that we only breed from sound quality dogs and all our dogs are now hip & elbow scored and CL, TNS & CEA DNA tested before breeding with and all puppies eye tested at six to seven weeks old.

We invite you to take a look at some of our lovely Border Collies and I think you would have to agree how happy and content they all are.

This site is dedicated to my wonderful girl CHELSEA who gave us such unconditional love, 1990 -2002.
