| HISTORICAL BACKGROUND | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DON BOSCO TECHNICAL COLLEGE of Mandaluyong is a Catholic Institution of learning for boys, owned and operated by the Salesians of Don Bosco. Its buildings and facilities are located on a 3.5 hectare campus on 736 General Kalentong St., Mandaluyong City. It is known for its academic-technical education and Christian formation. The institution started as a Youth Center in January 1953 with the arrival of the pioneer Salesians in Mandaluyong, and their subsequent acquisition of the nearly three-century old San Carlos Seminary. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| On June 2, 1953, the institution formally opened as a school with the enrolment of 47 poor boys in one class of First Year High School. From this humble beginning, DBTC-Mandaluyong grew in a span of less that two decades into what it is today - a Technical College offering elementary, secondary and post-secondary courses. The college department, which opened as a junior college in 1996 and began operations as a regular college only in 1969, now offers courses in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering and Computer Engineering. |

| The MSTC (Manpower Skills Training Center) which was established in 1970, now offers short-term courses in Radio-Mechanics, TV-Video repair, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Industrial Electricity and basic Machine Shop to young men who cannot pursue a formal higher education. Similarly, the ITC (Industrial Technician Center), established in 1976, has been offering three-year courses in mechanical and Electronics Technology. In keeping with the trend in technology, DBTC set up the Computer Center in 1981 which has since been servicing all the departments of the institution. The rise and continuing growth of DBTC-Mandaluyong rest on the abiding faith of the young, the dedication and generosity of men, the inspiration of Divine Providence. |

| SCHOOL SEAL | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Seal has a circular shape bordered on top by the school's motto, PRO DEO ET PATRIA, and below by the name DON BOSCO TECHNICAL COLLEGE-MANDALUYONG CITY. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| At center is a cross symbolizing the primacy of Christian Catholic education and formation in this institution. The cross rests on a salakot to signify the distinct Filipino character ambience and aspiration of the Salesian mission in this Educative Community. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Between the horizontal section of the cross and the salakot is the founding year of this school, 1953, appearing atop three underlining lines. Three waves represents the three pillars of Don Bosco's Preventive system of Education, namely, REASON, RELIGION and LOVING-KINDNESS. The lines symbolizes, 'daluyong' and recall the legendary origin of the community of Mandaluyong. Tradition has it that the name of this city originated from the abundance of "mga daluyong." |

| A half-gear on the left and laurel leaves on the right surround the central design and are emblematic respectively of technical and academic education, the twin goals of the school for the development of the Filipino youth. |

| THE FOUNDER - St. John Bosco (1815-1888) and his Pedagogy | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() |
John Bosco was an outstanding educator who spanned the last century. His ideas and theories have found acceptance in our present century and are being taught and practised in over a hundred nations. More than forty thousand (40,000) dedicated religious men and women apply his educational method called the PREVENTIVE SYSTEM OF DON BOSCO. The system meets the needs of the modern generation of young people who seek friendly understanding, and a kind of atmosphere where they can grow and mature. We find in John Bosco an understanding of genuine humanism - the best that is in man and woman; he endeavoured to bring out his best and raised it to a highly spiritual level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| He died at seventy-two (72), and the cause was attributed to physical exhaustion and bodily deterioration, the result of having spent himself on behalf of the young - teaching, counselling, advancing the cause of moral values, organizing religious institutions to perpetuate his work, establishing schools at home (Italy) and abroad as vehicles disseminating his REASON-RELIGION-LOVING KINDNESS theory of education. |

| THE FOUNDER (continued) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The two religious orders of men and women who followed his footsteps continued his effort to reach the hearts of the young in the hope of preparing a better society for tomorrow. His spiritual sons and daughters carried his message to every corner of the globe. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Salesian was the name given to his followers, after the gentle Bishop of Geneva, St. Francis de Sales. Don Bosco considered the spirit of St. Francis de Sales as best adapted to the times and suitable for the education and instruction of the young. He wanted his Salesians to be permeated with the spirit of gentleness, patience and charity of this great saint. Don Bosco often repeated the words of St. Francis de Sales, "You can catch more flies with a teaspoon of honey than with a barrel of vinegar." Thus, Don Bosco's educational system developed as the product of his own great love for the youth in the spirit of kindly understanding fostered by St. Francis de Sales. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Preventive System of Don Bosco stems from the Gospel of Christ who is meekness and love. This method is based on the golden words of St. Paul when he extols the great virtue of charity. "Charity is patient, charity is kind. It bears all things, Hopes all things, endures all things." (excerpts from Fr. Paul Avallone, SDB) |

| VISION | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We envision the young, especially the poor and abandoned, as well integrated persons who are Christ-centered; fully competent, with a leading edge in technology; and empowered to contribute to genuine human progress that is based on prosperity with honor, peace with freedom, and justice with charity. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Challenged by the complexity of modernization and globalization, the young steadfastly asserts gospel values in the daily affairs of living, upholding the ideals of Service and the Common Good, thus bringing about a truly Christian Society. |
