Why do I have a page dedicated to a miniscule island country in the middle of the Caribbean? I was called to serve a church mission to the Dominican Republic and lived there from September of 1991 to July of 1993. During that time, I learned to love the country and it's people and look forward to the time when I can return (hopefully the summer of 2000). For more information about this great little country, follow the 'Debbie's Dominican Republic' link below. |

The mission I served in was called the Santo Domingo West Mission. The eastern most mission boundary split the capital in half and ran north past Monte Plata, cutting straight west until it reached Haiti, just above Elias Pina. I started in San Cristobal and lived in Sabana Yegua (surnamed "El Once" because it was 11 kilometers west of Azua), Neiba, and two areas of the capital, El Mirador and Cristo Rey. I spent some time in Barahona, also, where we met quite a few foreigners on vacation, though most of the vacation resorts are located along the north coast. |
