| 1/27/2006 Well, in spite of all the deterrents that seemed to keep popping up in the MPR renovations, the new sound and video systems are finally installed and they look and sound AWESOME! So I'm definitely looking forward to the Super Bowl Party that we're hosting next weekend. And I'm a big dork, even though Res Life is supposed to be supplying food and drinks, I'll probably bring a bag of my own snacks because I don't want to take away from stuff for the students. (and I want to make sure that I get food) I'm very excited for my brother becuase he's a huge Steelers fan. The Super Bowl is either going to be a great success or a huge letdown for him. *fingers crossed* The students are back and it's really not so bad. I missed them because they say the most random, funny thing and make me laugh. They're quite entertaining. I'm a little frustrated with TV though, because as always, radio is on the ball, everything is running smoothly and we (staff) don't have to tell them to do their jobs. But TV leaves so much to be desired. We have a few students that are such good, hard works, but the station manager is such a slacker. So even though there are great resources in students, if they're not being given any direction, they're not going to do any work. I had a sit-down with Bill to discuss my concerns, but apparently he and I aren't really seeing eye to eye on how to deal with this lack of motivation and work ethic, so I'm sort of in a bind. Not that I would ever go over his head, but if I see the opportunity arise to "shepherd" some of the motivationally-challenged individuals, I think I'm just going to push a little harder. What else is new? Well, 4 people quit at Apa Security, so life there is kinda crazy. It doesn't really affect me too much except when I want time off. We're really short handed, which means there's pretty much no one to cover any extra shifts. The part that's really stinky is that I need to take some time off over the next couple months because i need to spend time with Sean before he leaves for basic training. My tentative plan right now is that I'm going to ride this current dilemma out for another 3-4 weeks, and then let the powers that be know that I want to drop down to Friday overnights only. That way, they're not as dependent on me for the whole weekend, it gives me an actual day off from work, and theoretically I could travel down to MD if I wanted to. Plus, I'd still be receiving a supplemental income, just less than what it had been. I think that that should work out well... hopefully. As my mom said, I'm an overachiever and I hate the thought that anything I do might be letting someone down or making a situation difficult to handle. Yep, that's me. Things are going GREAT with Drew! We just celebrated 6 months since our 1st date... yeah, we're so cute we'd make you sick. He surprised me with a dozen beautiful white roses, and I gave him a little white bear with a shirt that says "Cuddle with someone from SUNY New Paltz." I actually got the bear about a month ago because I thought it was so cute and I wanted to give it to Drew, but I wasn't sure when would be a good time. Now I know. And Drew is also amazing because even after dealing with all the headaches that come with his job, he's also incredibly patient with my "moodiness" that comes with the cold winter months. I'm trying to keep my crankiness under control and he's just amazingly supportive. I got really super lucky! :) Upcoming events include: crocheting/knitting party with Sherri, church spaghetti dinner, Sherri's birthday, Super Bowl party, & Valentine's Day. Well until next time... Ciao! .~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~. 1/9/2006 MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!! It's been a whirlwind of a month. Everything was pretty much a blur up until Christmas Day. Drew was working in Oswego, NY on a 6 studio radio build which kept him exhausted for almost 6 weeks straight. By the time the project was finished, I was genuinely concerned about his ability to move. On the other hand, I was winding down at work but running around like a crazy person trying to get everything ready for the holidays. Somehow I did it (well, sort of... Drew still hasn't received his completed Christmas gift). Because of working at the security company, I had to work overnight Christmas Eve into Christmas Day and had to travel to Maryland on Christmas. We ended up celebrating Christmas on the 26th instead of the 25th but surprisingly that worked out pretty well. It was a frenzied rush to spend time with family before everyone had to head home or go back to work (except me, I took 2 weeks off of work). I ended up seeing very few friends unfortunately because I was trying to balance time between my family in MD, my family in VA, and meeting/spending time with Drew's family in Philly and Mansfield, PA. Drew had some really crazy last minute events arise that changed both of our original travel plans, but honestly I've heard the story told at least 10 times now, I've had to tell it at least 5 times... I just don't think I can hear it or repeat it again!! Suffice to say, it all worked out because God is just that good. Drew was also able to come down to MD and spend some time with me, my mom, and my brother. So very quickly, here's the progression of my travels: New York to Maryland, Maryland to Philly, Philly to New York, *insert blizzard here* New York to Maryland to Virginia (in one day!), Virginia to Maryland (VA was 58 degrees and sunny this day), Maryland to New York to Mansfield, Mansfield to New York... and to the moon!! Next year, I'd like to host the holidays at my place! All are welcome, bring sleeping bags, pillows, down comforters, air mattresses, a covered dish and a dessert. See you there! So what's happening now? Lots and lots of work. I've been helping Drew unpack and set up his new place, though now it's to the point that I can't really help much anymore because it's all running wires, cables, setting up computers, networks, sound systems, etc etc. I received a lot of home items for Christmas (thank you everyone for all the wonderful gifts!!!) so now I need to set them up. I'm also continuing to make progress on cleaning out and organizing my apartment. Yeah yeah, it'll finally be the way I like it just in time for me to move again. I'm very excited about the hope that sooner rather than later, I will have a comfortable home that is ridden of boxes, clutter, and dust. Keep me in your prayers! I just came back to work today, and it's been one road block after another. The Campus Media Center has been trying to spear head renovations to the Student Union Building's multi-purpose room. Last week, when the work was supposed to begin, there was a blizzard and the campus actually shut down *gasp* (oh my gosh, the horror, the insanity!). The next day, the crew's truck got stuck in the snow. The day after that, the lift broke and a new one had to be rented. Finally, today, a nosy maintenance worker thought that the insulation which was being cut was asbestos. It isn't, but until proper university protocol can be followed so no one gets sued, the project has now been shut down. So much for trying to do a good thing for the campus community. And tentatively, no more Superbowl Party. :( In Elkyn's most succinct and poignant words, "Welcome back Rhea!" This morning I was cheery... now I'm sarcastic. *sigh* It's good to be home! Ciao! |
