| Thursday, 2/10/2005 Yay! I'm finally finished with the revamping of my website for Valentine's Day!! It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work coming up with ideas and putting it all together. And in 5 days, it'll be all over and back to the way it was. Maybe with a couple modifications. So the super big news of the week... *drum roll*... I have a new car!!!! Last weekend I went home to Maryland to celebrate my mom's birthday, and to switch cars with her. And she didn't give me her car, she's not letting me borrow her car... I'm buying her car from her. It's a 2002 Chevy Cavalier, automatic, 60,000 miles, dark green, great condition. So I said goodbye to my old yet faithful first car, my white Chevy Corsica that I've had since I was a senior in high school. Now my brother's driving that car temporarily because his is in the shop. So you might ask, what vehicle is my mom driving? Well, on her birthday, she finally bought her brand new, 2004 Nissan Frontier! She's been talking about it for years, but she finally got her truck!! It's a manual transmission (which means other than her, I'm the only other person in our family that can drive it), 2-seater with a rear jump seat, black with tan interior. Mom had to get one of those car seat pillows for her back to push her forward a couple inches so that she could comfortably reach the pedals. I guess trucks are made for people with slightly longer legs than she has. So this weekend was all kinds of fun, just for that. Friday night Joe and I went to Sherri's birthday party, or as it was quite often referred, "Sherri Princess Day". (aka - Greg dies a little inside Day) We hung around for cookies, cake, a drink, and some conversation, but then left around 9:30 when they were getting ready to play poker. We went back to Joe's house where Joe and his two housemates were hosting their own party. It was fun, I met a couple new people, chatted with some others, and just relaxed. Joe drank a little too much wine too fast, and alcohol makes him sleepy. By midnight he was asleep in his bed. Poor thing, he missed most of his own party. Saturday I woke up super early to drive back to Maryland. That night, Mom, Sean, his girlfriend Kim, Barbara, and I all went out to Damon's for my mom's birthday dinner. We got there at 6 and didn't leave until 9. It was a lot of fun, Mom, Barbara, and I had some really good conversations, while Sean and Kim kinda did their cutsy couple thing. After dinner, we all came back to my mom's house and Barbara and I sat up talking until close to midnight. Girl talk as usual... I miss that a lot. I've realized that up here I don't have an girlfriends that I can really talk to. Though trying to compare anyone to the friendship that I have with Barbara is crazy because we've been working at it for 9 years now. I realized last night that the next couple months are going to be really hectic, both at work and at home too. With holidays, birthdays, spring breaks, and coordinating schedules, it's going to be lots fun. I just hope I don't double book something... oh wait, already did that once. ;) It's ok Joe, you didn't mean to get your dates mixed up. So if anyone wants 2 tickets to see Movin' Out at the Richard Rogers Theater in NYC on Saturday, March 26 at 8pm, let me know. Front Mezzanine, Row D, Seats 105 & 106!! Pass it on! Last night was the Ash Wednesday service on campus, hosted by the Student Christian Center. I decided to go and I'm very glad that I did... yesterday was spiritually moving for me and God did an amazing job of reaching out and touching my heart. He really moved in a powerful way! I might be taking a trip sometime this semester to Philly to visit my friend Kristen who's in her senior year at Philadelphia Bible College. We talked last night on IM and we decided that it was probably easier for me to go to her than for her to come to me. Those crazy college students and their crazy schedules. So that should be a lot of fun, I can't wait. Alright, time to focus... Ciao! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Tuesday, 2/1/2005 HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO MY WEBSITE! ;) I can't believe a whole year has gone by... so much has happened and yet it doesn't feel like that much time has gone by. Craziness! I think that no matter where you are in life, looking back is always bittersweet. If you're looking back at the good times, it's sweet to remember them but bitter because you miss it. If you're looking back at the bad times, it's sweet because you're not there anymore but bitter because they happened at all. So as my much admired yet eccentric Greek professor once said, "You have to take the bitter with the better." The students are back! And they definitely love giving me stuff to do... but it's ok, they make my life much more interesting. Though right now the Student Association Executive Board (the people that have control of disbursing our allotted budget funds) is being a royal pain. It'll go away, it always does, but it's more unnecessary paperwork in the meantime. This past Friday, Joe and I went to a local swing dance. We had an absolute blast, it was so fun to get out and do something fun and energetic that we both love. Plus, it was nice to remember the last time we went swing dancing. For those who don't know, Joe and I got together at a swing dance so we have some very wonderful memories from swing dancing. Also, while we were there, I ran into someone I know from work. Pastor Paul works for the Student Christian Center and the office is 3 doors down from mine. I realized a little later that this was the first time that I was out somewhere and ran into someone that I knew from somewhere else. I never thought that I would miss being able to do that. Having lived in MD for 20 years, I would always see someone that I knew. Well, I'm now just a little bit closer to feeling like I belong here. So Pastor is a really good swing dancer, we danced, and it was so much fun. He's since given me some information about more dances in the area, so hopefully Joe and I will be able to do this more often than once a year. I was supposed to go back to MD this past weekend, but even though the weather cooperated up here, it apparently was icy and such in MD. Mom didn't want me to have to drive back to NY in that kind of weather. So I'll be attempting this trip again this coming weekend. Also, I'm investigating the possibility of getting a second, part-time job as an administrative assistant to the Hudson Valley School of Aesthetics. On top of using my obsessive-compulsive tendency to organize, it'll give me some extra money to put towards buying this car from my mom, and I'll be eligable for monthly free massages and beauty treatments. How cool is that? I sent them my cover letter and resume today, so hopefully I'll hear something back soon. Alright, time to eat and get back to work. Until next time... Ciao! |
