Either this weekend or next, my mom and I are switching cars.  Saturday was "the blizzard", I stayed home most of the day and cleaned and relaxed.  Sunday I slept until noon (probably because I woke up at 6am wide awake) and then went to wash the dishes that were in the sink, and found out that my pipes were frozen.  After further investigation, and a phone call to the super, apparently no one had water because the pipes under the building were frozen, preventing any water from moving.  I ended up packing some things, digging out my car amidst 12" of snow, and driving to Marist to get a shower and brush my teeth.  The pipes wouldn't be fixed until Monday morning, so I stayed where there was running water.  Monday morning came, and my car wouldn't start.  It was bitter cold outside, and apparently it was too much for my chevy to handle.  I thought about the idea of getting campus security to try to jump start my car, but in the end I decided to just have it towed.  I called the tow truck @ 8:15am, and he came about 9:45.  Not too bad, I've waited longer before.  Well, everyone else seemed to be having car problems too.  Got the car to the Firestone a little before 10am, and I waited, and waited, and waited.  Joe was ever so nice enough to pick me up about 3pm after he go out of work, we ate, ran some errands... anyways, my car was finally looked at and diagnosed about 7pm.  They new what the problem was, but they couldn't fix it that night, and I would have to wait until Tuesday morning.  Joe, once again the amazing wonderful boyfriend that he is, drove me to Firestone on Tuesday morning on his way to work.  Luckily, the car was done, it ran great and I was happier with my car back.  But Mom and I have decided that it's better if my car spends the remaining years of its life in a slightly warmer climate.  Since I can't afford a car right now, we're going to switch cars so that I have something more stable to get through the winter.  So that's the story of my very long and tiring weekend.  Good news though, I have water again!

These last two days have been my attempts to catch-up with the "have to's" at work and at home.  I've been a very busy bee and as my reward, I slept more soundly last night than I have in a while.  Seriously, I fell asleep around midnight, shortly after having finished vacuuming, and I don't think I moved at all until 7am when my alarm clock went off.  It felt so good. :) Funny how the highlights of your days are when you sleep well... does that mean I'm getting old?  Also, I caught the new episode of GG last night, very very good, and I also watched my weekly additive of SATC, but it was sad and I cried a little.  Anyways... enough of that!

Ok, I have a sinus headache (what is up with me and sinus headaches lately?) and I'm in desperate need of some tylenol and a pillow...

Ciao!

So it's been brought to my attention through a variety of ways that I need to be more consistent with my household chores.  Perhaps this revelation is coming at a perfect time, since it's supposed to snow anywhere from 6 - 15 inches tomorrow... what better time to do housework than when you can't (or at least shouldn't) go anywhere.  I'm thinking that maybe my New Year's resolution shouldn't have been to start working out (which I have failed at miserably), but instead to do my dishes every night, make my bed every morning, and vacuum every week.  Hmmm... some things (or people) are worth changing for.

I need to post a brief public service announcement... Blockbuster's new "no late fees" is a complete scam.  What they fail to tell you (or at least what they failed to tell me) is that any movies that aren't returned within 8 days of the day they were checked-out will be assessed a "restocking fee".  Funny, this restocking fee sounds an awful lot like a "late fee".  And if the movies haven't been returned within 10 days, you're sent a bill that tells you how much you're supposed to pay in order to buy these movies, because they're now considered sold to you.  If you return the movies within 30 days, you receive a refund of the charge for purchasing the videos, but you still have to pay a "restocking fee" (aka - late fee).  So yeah, it's all bull.

Tonight after work I'm being DD for a happy hour trip to Noah's.  Sherri, Joe and I are all going and it should be fun.  Then tonight is poker night @ Sherri's townhouse, and I'm actually going to play (I haven't played in about 3 months or so).  It's a good thing I don't play to try to make money, because I'd lose miserably.  I just love the conversations and the comraderie.  Plus it gives me something to do on a Friday night with a bunch of friends that's better than going to the movies.  Not that checking out a new movie from time to time is a bad thing, but I think it's highly over-rated.  Think about it, what other recreation can people partake in where two people can sit side-by-side for 2 hours and they could either love each other or hate each other... but it doesn't matter... they can still sit next to each other for 2 hours while watching a movie?  No wonder 1st dates are so often to a movie... it's to help ensure a 2nd date! ;) Dinner... playing pool... bowling... dancing... they're all better for social interaction than a movie.  No wonder as a society social interaction skills are on the decline.

Two days ago my car wouldn't start.  Possibly a bad battery?  Possibly a frozen fuel line?  Possibly my car is just too old to handle the extreme cold that's indigenous to up-state NY?  I missed a day of work taking care of it... I think it's time for a change.  My mom and I were talking about possibly switching cars.  Since her car is newer, it wouldn't have the same wear and tear on it as my car does, plus it might be able to withstand the sub-zero temperatures.  I think that's a possibility to pursue over the next couple weeks.

I laughed this morning at this... Raleigh, North Carolina was crippled by 1 inch of snow!  Over 1,000 accidents were reported, school children were forced to spend the night in their schools because the buses couldn't take them home, the city literally shut down.  What the heck?!?  That's a dusting!  Damn... crazy southerners.  Of course I haven't heard the end of it yet from Bill and Elkyn.

Ok, enough talk for today, my tylenol sinus is kicking in and I think it's time for my nap.

Ciao!
