"James was killed in a car crash six years ago." Don struggled not reach out to the woman. He was in utter shock. She had no one. He stared at her silently,
"I'm so sorry," he whispered.  Kate shook her head, and the tears began to roll once more.
"I just-- I just wish the bastard had killed me. I wish the girls would wake up, but I'd rather they die than lay there somewhere in between. If they died. . . then I could just kill myself and we could all be together. . . but with them in between. . . I-- I-- just. . ." She finally cracked. The weight of it all seemed to topple onto her and she fell forward onto the desk, bawling.  She stayed that way for about a minute, but then just as suddenly she straightened, stiffened, and cleared her throat. "I'm sorry Mr. Calder, Mr. Fox. I-- have to go." She grabbed her jacket off the arm of the chair and raced out of the room.
For a few moments, the two men sat there, taking in what they had heard. Then Jeremy sucked in a big breath of air. "I think you should get on the phone and call Melody Honeycut. Tell her to go check on her friend. I also think we should both drop our other cases for the moment. I think this one is going to have to be a priority." Don nodded blankly. Kate's words were echoing in his head. This one was definitely going to be a priority.
