Tens of thousands, if not millions, of people around the world are descendants of early Europeans who first settled the area that would become known as Gagnef parish, in the Dala lan (Dalarna) region of central Sweden. One of the more illustrious and interesting individuals known to have lived there during the late Middle Ages was the first Lutheran Vicar of Gagnef parish, Olaus Laurentii who was appointed by the King of Sweden in the late 1500's, during the religious Reformation in Sweden. Today, a website is dedicated to the descendants of Olaus Laurentii (Laurentius), hosted by leading genealogists and historians in Sweden. This website complements their Olaus Laurentii Family Association site, as a repository of links and historical information, and a gathering place for individuals researching their Genealogical and/or Genetic ancestry from Gagnef parish, Sweden. Our goals include assisting those who are interested in exploring their genetic history and how it may complement one's genealogical research; providing current and accurate historical articles on the history of Gagnef parish; and creating an efficient LINK database for our fellow descendants of Gagnef parish and our long-distance cousins from the Olaus Laurentii family. In time, we will also include Family Trees of the various family branches descended from Olaus Laurentii, in PDF format. Please visit our site often as we will be adding to it and upgrading the site on a regular basis! |
