Online Tools and Reference Resources

I have recently updated the list (January 2003) and added some new links

Most of this list was compiled in 1997 (dead links have been removed)

If you don't see what you need, try a search engine (eg. Google)

ONLINE TOOLS

THE ULTIMATE ORIGINAL JAVASCRIPT COLORSHOW netSperience's own ColorShow - displays random color schemes for web pages, or you can input your own hex values for BG, TEXT, LINK, VLINK, & SCROLLBAR colors. Create an instant <BODY> tag!
Microsoft Internet Explorer recommended - (not all features work with Netscape Navigator).
coder.com BANNER GENERATOR A quick and powerful banner generator. Choose from a large variety of fonts;
easy or precise definition of foreground and background colors; transparency; effects; option to mount banner on a blank. Generates a gif image.
GIF WIZARD This famous service can help you minimize the size of your gif image files.
Now offered as a subscription for full services, the free services are still helpful.
Can analyze an image on a server or on your own computer.
HEX-RGB RGB-HEX COLOR CONVERTER Very helpful, for example, if your graphics application uses RGB values, but you want to match a HEX color.
myHTMLjive EDITOR My version of Ray Daly's HTMLjive editor adds scrolling to the preview window. This editor is really handy when using the GeoCities or other online editors - you don't have to wait for the cgi scripts to update your page in order to preview your work. Requires a JavaScript capable browser. Save to your hard disk and use it whenever you want!
WDG HTML VALIDATOR A fast, easy, (and free), HTML validator
ONLINE TOOLS Find a lot of these tools, and more, in this collection. Last updated 2000.

JAVASCRIPT REFERENCES

NETSCAPE'S JAVASCRIPT GUIDE Netscape invented JavaScript, so of course, this guide has a bias towards Netscape Navigator in the browser wars.
JAVASCRIPT @ netSperience I have my own bias about the appropriate use of JavaScript.
This is also a fun page to visit - for beginners and the not so green...

I often consult the following offline book:

JAVASCRIPT FOR THE WORLD WIDE WEB
Visual Quickstart Guide
by Ted Gesing and Jeremy Schneider
(Peachpit Press)
A compact and comprehensive guide.

GENERAL INTERNET REFERENCES

INTRODUCING THE INTERNET netSperience's beginner's guide.
Most topics are fundamental and will apply to a wide range of users.
CREATING ONLINE WEBSITE Free web design, image editing, and site promotion tools for beginners.
CREATORS PAGE A vast collection of fascinating links, including HTML help, various internet resources, web cams, all presented with Flash animations and an unusual personal and opinionated style. I found CREATORS PAGE in a Google search because it "borrowed" my ColorShow script, and the webmaster was decent enough to add a link to my original page when I requested it.
