| I first started getting interested in journalism when I was a freshman at North Eugene High School. In my first term there, I enrolled in a class called Photojournalism, taught by Mary Holland. The class was divided into two parts: photography and writing. I originally joined the class for the photography, but I ended up liking the writing part better. We completed all kinds of assignments (an example of one of those assignments will someday appear here). In addition to those assignments, I also wrote some extra credit articles for the school newspaper, the Caledonian. The next year, I joined the Caledonian, and from that point on I knew I wanted to be a journalist (read more about my journalism exploits here). My main interest is print journalism: newspapers, magazines and such. I don't think I'm cut out for broadcasting. But Internet journalism might be a possibility. I am currently enrolled in the University of Oregon, and I take classes from the U of O's School of Journalism and Communication. I hope to become a full major in the school by the end of this school year. Before one becomes a full major, one is a pre-major. To actually become a full major, you must: -Take five core Pre-major classes, passing them with a C average. - J101 Grammar for Journalists - J201 Mass Media and Society - J202 Information Gathering (otherwise known as Info Hell) - J203 Writing for the Media - J204 Visual Communication -Pass the school's LSDT grammar test. But before you take the test, it's wise to take J101. Each student must pass the LSDT in no more than two attempts. -Have a University GPA of 2.5 or more. -Complete at least 45 credits of course work. -Develop a plan of study. |
