William Nelson Davis
Pictured above is William Nelson Davis(Pa Seat) and Sarah Taylor Davis. This picture was probably taken in the early 1900's.
It is told that Pa Seat's nickname came from the tradition of his being particularly possessive of a small stool when he was a little boy, so his parents nicknamed him Seat. The Pa got tacked on years later. Both William and wife Sarah would come to be known as Ma and Pa Seat.
This picture was taken in 1980. It is the same house that is seen on the previous page with William and Sarah Davis and family. This house was located in Northampton County, North Carolina, in the vicinity of Faison's Old Tavern. The land that this house located on appears to have been purchased back in the late 1700's by Edward Davis Sr. who originally came from Isle of Wight County, Virginia. It was purchased from a Nicholas Boone. Edward Davis Sr. was not a blood relative of the Davis line that occupied this land in the mid 1800's. Nathaniel Allen owned the land during this period. One of his sons John Thomas Allen was married to a Nancy Davis and this is where this Davis line originated.
