Philip Hammond of Marblehead, Massachusetts, was born about 1710. His birth and parentage cannot be ascertained. It has been supposed that he was the son of Edward, but this is not probable. Philip was a common name in a family of Hammonds living in Boston at an early date, but no connection can be made with these families, or any connected account of their descendants obtained. It seems certain that he was nearly related to John and Elias Hammond, of Marblehead, and was perhaps a brother of Benjamin Hammond, of Danvers, Massachusetts.
It appears that he married Mary Sweetland on 11 January 1732. This may have been his first of two marriages. The second has not been confirmed.
His Daughter Sarah was baptised 21 October 1739. She married James Oakes 24 September 1764. James died (year unknown) and she married 17 December 1778.
He removed to Danvers about 1760, but returned to Marblehead a few years later.
His father may have been a Philip Hammond , who would have to have been born about 1690. This Philip Hammond was married to Hannah (maiden name unknown). This Philip is believed to have died sometime around or before 1772. There is a copy of inventory of estate, which was settled 17 December 1772.
