Interview:
Purpose and Process

This is a "Special Features" page. Special features will be longer articles that highlight a particular event or person of importance in Telgard. For these articles, news style is preferred, though creative elements are welcome. For example, Andraste's piece on the "Ruins of Tegn" has a more creative feel, but it functions to explain a news-worthy occurance. This merit distinguishes the Features section from the Creative fan works. Player and XM interviews are also included in the Features section. As explained by AGM Quesnet:

Player Interview:

I believe that Player Interviews would highlight different players within the Kingdoms of Telgard and showcase their thread. It would instil a sense of pride for the player being interviewed and promote the interests and accomplishments of the Players.

I believe that the style should be Descriptive/Expository or Persuasive and I would like to see it in an in-character format. A list of questions common to interviews should be developed and when each interview is to take place addition questions that are specific to the character should be developed with the player being involved.

The information in the interview is not as time-sensitive as other documents but happenings may occur near the end of our development cycle. I would suggest that the interview be conducted and finished close to the end of the middle of our creation window. For example, if we publish the e-zine every three months it should be done near the end of the second month.

Players to be interviewed should be selected according to their IC accomplishments and OOC availability. Perhaps moderators could nominate their PCs, and the interviewer can then determine the player's willingness, and make arrangements for the interview.

Questions to ask might include, but are not limited to:

  • Basic information: Where are you from? Where are you going? And what kind of trouble are you in?
  • General philosophy questions such as What is your opinion of magic/the gods/other races/current political situation/ etc?
  • And character-specific questions, such as, "What do you plan to do about that assassin who's been trying to kill you?"
The primary focus of the interview is to answer the question Why does this person stand out? The interviewer should choose questions that will highlight the unique qualities and endeavors of the interviewee. Why are we interviewing this person as opposed to someone else?

Remember that interviews are more than the words spoken. We use body language to communicate things that our words might not. Some description of appearances is appropriate in setting the scene of the interview (for ic characters at least). Also, posture, gesture, tone of voice (if you can get them out of your interviewee) may add a great deal to the piece. Does the character youre interviewing blush when you ask about a certain NPC? Are they slouching in their chair or biting their nails? Do they giggle when you ask about their latest caper (and is it the mad scientist cackle or merely an evil grin)?

XM Interview:

I believe that xM Interviews would highlight different GMs within the Kingdoms of Telgard and showcase their opinions and interests. It would instil a sense of pride for the staff being interviewed and promote the interests and accomplishments of the individual GM..

I believe that the style should be Descriptive/Expository or Persuasive and I would like to see it in an out-of-character format. A list of questions common to interviews should be developed and when each interview is to take place addition questions that are specific to the character should be developed with the GM being involved.

The information in the interview is not as time-sensitive as other documents. I would suggest that the interview be conducted and finished as close to the beginning of our creation window as possible. For example, if we publish the e-zine every three months it should be done near the end of the first month.

Moderators might be chosen either to highlight their recent accomplishments or for more general merits and human interest. If the former, the interview should highlight the accomplishments or developing plans and ask questions tailored to that effect. Human interest questions might include:
  • How long have you been with Telgard and What led you here?
  • Who was your original character?
  • What made you decide to become a moderator?
  • What do you enjoy about moderating and what do you dislike?
  • Whats the most memorable thread youve moderated?
  • What's the most memorable (or humorous) post?
  • What exciting plots are you currently developing?
  • Where do you find your inspirations?
  • What words of advice would you give to other moderators or potential moderators?
  • What advice would you give to players who want to get on your good side?

The xM should also be asked their opinion on current Telgard hot-topics, and other points of interest according to the interviewer's discretion. Questions about the xM's opinion of particular players or other moderators would be inappropriate.
