DIOMA'S POETRY
THE MAIDEN'S RETORT

Once I long to sail in open sea
A dream I have, full of vanity
Yet, I remembered what you've told me,
"Darling, the danger is there, you see
In this land you stay, don't go with me."

Fleeing I'm not, but I must be free
For with you I am in lethargy.
Our future lies with uncertainty.
Though we may have lived in poverty
I'd be glad if love's our destiny.

My heart does yearn for you, my darling.
The warmth you once gave kept it ticking;
Your caress created a rare throbbing.
But now, my love, I lay down sobbing
For now, I feel my heart is dying.

Time will heal the wounds of love, they sat.
I do believe them and so I pray
That I will meet you again someday
Where we can open up all the way
And I shall wait for you on this quay.
