Let me ask you this - be honest, now: Are you a sinner?
You probably said "yes", right? "Yeah," you prob'ly said, "I'm a sinner."
Well...you're DEAD WRONG! In the Bible, the word "saint" is used frequently to describe Christians(in fact, it's used over 240 times!). "Saint" literally means "holy person". When you accept Christ as your savior, you become a saint, a holy person!
OK, pay attention to this part: If you think you're a failure, you'll fail. If you think you're a sinner, you'll sin! Stop thinking of yourself as a sinner and see yourself for what you really are: a saint in Jesus Christ!
Now, I know a lot of you are wondering, "How did I get to be holy in Jesus?" Well, check out Colossians 1:13-14: "For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." That says we've changed kingdoms - we're not part of both Satan's kingdom and Jesus', we only belong to Jesus' kingdom!
Now, check out 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" What does that say? It says we're new creations; the old one is gone.
Let me try to explain it better: before we accepted Christ, we were full of sin and darkness, right? The Bible refers to that as our old nature/old self/old man. When we invited Jesus to come live in us, we became what the Bible calls "in Christ;" since we were in Christ, our old nature died with Him on the cross. We didn't add a new, holy nature to our old, sinful one - we exchanged natures! Salvation is a complete change; when you became a Christian, you became someone who didn't exist before!
Ephesians 5:8 says "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord." It said we were darkness, now we are light. We're not in the light, we are light!
In the Bible, they use the term "being in the flesh" to mean not knowing Christ, living in the old nature. We're not in the flesh; we're in Christ! We don't need to live like we're in the flesh any more! Sin's power over us was broken when Jesus died on the cross, then rose from the dead. We don't have to sin, we don't have to respond to sin or even look at it! We are dead to sin in Christ!
