Thomas Benton McNaughton, Jr.
Born: January 10, 1839 in Alabama Died: February 13, 1862 in Dover, Tennessee "He was killed in the first battle of the Civil War. He was 23 years old and had never shaved. He was a very handsome man and had his mother's lovely hands." --notes by Vashti Gattis Ware "While I was there in school, we heard of the battle of Dover, Tennessee, and I knew my brother was there. I was so impressed that he was killed. I couldn't study for crying. We got the word in a few days that he was among the slain. The first to fall. How awful to think we would never see that good brother again . We know not where he was buried. The enemy had won. We heard they buried the dead in a field."- Tranquilla McNaughton Diary |
