HANUKKAH, THE DEDICATION OF THE TEMPLE - CONTINUED FROM PAGE 2

At the beginning of the Gospel according to Saint John , the Evangelist recounts:  "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made.  In Him was Life, and the life was the Light of men"  [John 1:1-4].

There is a specific link with the festival:  a Christian living in a Jewish environment as it is the case in Israel should endeavour to consider the miracle and spiritual aspect of the wonder to be alive.  The Jewish prayer "SheHekheyanu":  Blessed are you God/ Who has kept us alive and preserved us and enabled us to reach this time" allows to understand in depth the value of our days and the fact that we are as Christians a shining Light of the Lord testifying that He saves and gives Light where there is distrust, lack of faith, violence, tribulations.

Tiny lights that do sparkle from Jerusalem to the ends of the world, expressing the words of Saint Paul:  "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed;  we are perplexed but not in despair;  persecuted, but not forsaken, cast down, but not destroyed" [2nd Epistle to the Corinthians 4:8-9].
