UNIT 1 � INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

    Lesson 1 � (Welcome/Overview & Intro To Media Literacy)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students and teacher will get to know each other.
    � Students will understand scope of program and expectations of them.
    � Students will gain awareness and skills around issues of Media Literacy.

    Lesson 2 � (Media Literacy)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students will continue to discuss Media Literacy and will critically examine messages relayed on TV shows they watched.
    � Students will critically examine magazines geared to teen girls and women.

    Lesson 3 � (Entrepreneurship)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students will explore traditional and nontraditional careers of women around the world.
    � Students will identify present and potential businesses for young women in the Bushwick area.
    � Students will use �careercruising.com� to determine the best careers/businesses to develop for themselves.

    Lesson 4 � (Digital Collage � Gathering Images)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students will gather images of themselves, role models in their particular field, and objects related to their particular field.
    � Students will learn to scan images, and to save them to their folder on the network.
    � Students will learn to save images from digital file to their folder on the network.
    � Students will learn to save images from the Internet to their folder on the network.

    Unit Outcomes

    � Students will create a collage using construction paper and the images they�ve gathered.
    � Students will respond to literature re: traditional/nontraditional careers of women.
    � Students will create a shout out page.

    Lesson 1 � (Introduction)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students will learn HTML terms and concepts.
    � Students will review html source codes and identify tags and basic text structures.

    � Students will open notepad to begin creating their first homepage.
    � Students will learn the head and body section.
    � Students will manipulate background color and text.

    Lesson 3

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students will manipulate text and create lists.
    � Students will link to other pages.

    Lesson 4

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students will place images on their pages.
    � Students will create tables.

    Unit Outcome

    Students will build their own homepage that requires them to write in HTML.


    UNIT 3- INTRODUCTION TO POWER POINT

    Lesson Performance Objective:

    � Students gain a basic understanding of Photoshop and begin to create their digital collage.
    Lesson 2 � (Digital Collage � open studio)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students work independently to finish their Digital Collage.
    � Student work independently on �Artist�s Statement� to accompany Digital Collage.

    Lesson 3 � (Digital Collage � Student Presentations)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Students work independently to finish Digital Collage and statement to accompany the Digital Collage, and prepare for their presentation.
    � Students present their collages to the group and discuss the images chosen, themes represented, and techniques used to create it.

    Unit Outcome

    Students will create a digital collage using the images they�ve gathered and an artist�s statement to present to the class.

    Course Outcome

    Students will produce an on line magazine that will demonstrate their skills, and talents.

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Analyze differences between an employee and an entrepreneur.
    � Explain how small business helps the economy.
    � List some statistics on the numbers of small businesses owned by women and minorities.

    Lesson 2 � (Opportunity Recognition)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � To identify five roots of opportunity.
    � To suggest a business opportunity based on a given situation.
    � To evaluate the necessary ingredients for a business partnership.

    Lesson 3 � (The Right Stuff)

    � To evaluate their own entrepreneurial potential.
    � To evaluate how childhood challenges can help an entrepreneur.
    � To match skills and interests to possible businesses.
    � To examine possible goals.

    Lesson 4 � (Preparing Income Statements)

    � To prepare an income statement from figures in a word problem.
    � To explain the various types of costs.
    � To analyze why an income statement is important for a business.

    � To select a business idea.
    � To identify ways of finding an appropriate business.

    Lesson 6 � (Marketing/Market Research)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � To list the four "P's " of marketing: product, place, price, promotion.
    � To explain the differences between selling and marketing.
    To explain why a marketing plan is important.
    � To explain why market research is important.
    � To conduct market research for the prospective business.
    � To outline a marketing plan.

    � To state two keys to business success.

    � To explain the four functions of every business.

    Lesson 8 � (Technology Works)

    � To list technology products helpful in business.
    � To list ways computers are used in business.
    � To explain how to protect a computer.
    � To explore and evaluate web sites.

    Lesson 9 � (Supply and Demand/Forecasting Supply and Demand)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � To explain the relationship between supply, demand, and price.
    � To recognize factors that affect supply, demand, and price.
    � To explain how competition affects the price and quality of products
    through market forces.
    � To recognize factors that affect supply and demand.
    � To read and construct a supply and demand graph to find the market clearing price.

    Lesson 10 � (Promotion and Binding)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � Explain how promotion is both advertising and publicity and cite examples.
    � Identify the parts of a print advertisement.
    � Analyze what type of promotion would fit particular businesses and markets.
    � Evaluate electronic storefronts.

    Lesson 11 � (Raising Capital)

    Lesson Performance Objectives:

    � To explain the objectives of venture capitalists.
    � To explore sources of venture capital.
    � To use a search engine to find information on specific topics.
