Comments in Regards to Pool Motor Truck Driver Letter

First of all we would like to congratulate the Career Pool Motor Truck Drivers. It would have been better if we were all put on just one seniority list instead of two. Some of you have been working for the city anywhere from 1 to 13 years. Why didn’t our present Executive Board just negotiate everyone as Career Motor Truck Drivers? You have been paying union dues all these years without representation which we at FIGHTING FOR THE FUTURE think is unfair and just wrong. If elected we will guarantee that all members who pay union dues will be represented or we will not sign the contract.

We have received a lot of complaints that the New Pool Motor Truck Drivers are having problems with the city recognizing them as Career Pool Motor Truck Drivers especially for when it comes to your insurance. They have been told they are still on the list as seasonals. This should have been taken care of prior to July 1, 2006 by the present Executive Board and the city. You can’t wait until the day something is supposed to happen to check into it.

As of July 1, 2006 Career Pool Motor Truck Drivers should have been able to get their insurance for themselves and their families. We know that you are as tired as we are to hear “that’s the city, that’s the way the city does things”. WRONG. You get on top of things and you check into them months before to make sure it is taken care of especially if you know that that’s how the city works. You do not wait until your members get hurt to do something. Maybe the present Executive Board forgot or they were just to busy with their long summer vacation.

It is time that the people who sign our contracts on both sides stand up and get things done on time for us and our members. Also, we are still waiting to hear about why the members who are working for less money are paying the same union dues as everyone else. Maybe the present Executive Board should reread what they signed where it specifically states the amounts we are all supposed to pay per hourly rate.
