Well, I didn't do much of the brick laying, I was always making the mortar.  I don't know right now, but I think we used almost 2000 blocks.  Well, anyway, after the walls were done in the basement, we got to do "rough carpentry!"  Now that was the FUN, and it was the easier part of the addition.  Yup, things really started moving once we got to that.  We kept on building, and building, until we were on the 3rd story.  We would have added another story, but that's another story.  LOL.
As it is now, you can stand on a platform that is about 1 foot below the roofline of our original house.  It's pretty high.  But I do enjoy going up there to read.  Right now, on the inside of the house, we are working on wiring outlets, and putting up drywall.  If you would like to see us working, check out my webcam.
Hello, and welcome to our addition.  Well, the web page for it anyway.  I guess I should begin by telling you about it.  We started building about 3 years ago.  I knew Mom and Dad had been talking about adding on for a while, so it wasn't a big supprise when Dad said we were going to start work on it tomorrow.

The first thing to do, was to dig the basement. (by hand!)  And boy did we get tired doing that.  Not that it wasn't worth it though.  We used the garden tractor to bring the dirt from the side of the house, over to the yard.  Day after day, we would fill the wagon, and dump the wagon.  It was great digging though, most of it was sand  and we could just scoop it up.  I remember we would race to see how fast we could fill the wagon.  We got it down to 1.5 seconds.  And this wasn't a small wagon either.  If you don't believe me, check out the picture!  After we got the basement dug, and the footers poured, we moved on to the brick laying.  Did you know that one 12 inch block weighs about 50lbs?
I just thought I'd type something here.
