This is my rant about some of my thoughts about the society we currently live in. This is defiantly freeform writing while going from one point to another without many connections in between. I wrote this rant during one of my Sociology lectures. Enjoy!

My Rant on Society

First off, people and citizens have less and less power due to campaign contributions to politicians. Basically, the top-half of 1% of the total population, give millions upon millions of dollars to these politicians in order to receive laws and legislation which favor them. For example: Pres. Bush passed a law to give a tax break to those people who make $100,000 or more annually. Even worse, many corporations/companies who make hundreds of millions and billions of dollars get tax-exempt status is extremely unfair and keeps widening the gap. In addition, in order to fund a war that has been fought as a privatized war for oil…the government has decreased spending on other, important areas such as education and welfare. Most people, who are on welfare, do actually need their welfare due to their low education status and growing up in a difficult community. Since less money is being spent on education, more and more kids dropout of school or don’t do so well in school. Here’s the state of California’s response to the less educated by being the 50th state in school funding and 1st in prison spending…if you fail in school, we have a new home just for you when “keeping it real goes wrong” (in some cases committing a crime). As a result, the upward mobility for people who start at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder stay there and can barely move up while people on top do everything with their power to keep it. WHAT A JOKE!
